I'd never heard of Skating Polly before seeing them open for Kate Nash at Metro in Chicago just two days ago. Kelli walked up to the mic with her electric guitar and Peyton sat down behind the drums. From start to finish they gave one hell of a show so I knew I had to pickup this cd from their merch table. My buddy and I listened to it for most of the five hour trip back home and we had a blast making a Pandora station based around their sound.

Speaking of which, their sound is pretty difficult to narrow down. Right away you want to call them punk straight out of the 90's but then they pull out some softer indie rock sounds. I like to think of them as the best of The Dollyrots, Le Tigre, and newer Kate Nash all mashed together. You can see their influences shine through in their work. From their Facebook page: "Influences: Nirvana, Neutral Milk Hotel, Beat Happening, Bikini Kill, Velvet Underground, Beatles, Regina Spektor, X, Kimya Dawson".

You should absolutely buy this album!

Their songs are AMAZING. I bought both albums and was blown away by their music and style. I strongly suggest them to everyone.

Saw them live recently and came away extremely impressed as they upstaged La Sera and came close to upstaging Kate Nash. They are a two piece band and move back and forth a little bit between instruments, though the younger one played guitar more than the older one, who played drums. They came across as a little more punk at the show than on this album, but this is pretty punk too. This has a lot of songs on it that they didn't play when I saw them, including some mellower stuff like the title track Lost Wonderfuls and a sweet ukelele song to end the album. Damn interesting lyrics on here. More people should know about this band and I can't help but think they will as long as these two keep making music. Did I mention they are 13 and 18? That's not the best thing about them but I have to believe they will keep progressing from where they are now.

One of those bands you either love or hate. I love Skating Polly for the most part, but think they have a greater potential they still have yet to tap into. It will certainly be interesting to see how this band evolves in coming years.

I saw these two open for The Flaming Lips once, and they were great!
