BLUES/ROCK AT ITS BEST,
This review is from: Lot of Bottle (Audio CD)
In 1970 Climax blues band were influenced by the old Chicago blues players. They took those influences and wrote some major tunes adding their form of rock to the blues. Peter Haycocks slide playing on this CD is awesome! Colin Coopers vocal work can get down and vibirate your bass speakers! The tracks "Everyday" &"Reap what Ive sowed" are my personal favorites. However every one of these tracks are worth every penny! Take My word if you are a blues/rock fan you wont be disappointed.N.P.

I was fortunate to see CBB a couple of times in the early '70s. I maintain to this day that Peter Haycock is one of the finest (and most overlooked) blues guitarists in the world. As far as 'A Lot of Bottle', well, this is my favorite CBB album followed closely by 'Tightly Knit'. (By the way, this album was simply called 'Climax Blues Band' when I was wearing the record out in college, circa 1972. It had a brown cover with an old man playing a high-hat.)
There are several bonus tracks ('Morning, Noon, and Night', 'Long Lovin Man', and 'Loving Machine') which are okay but don't really add much, in my opinion. One big problem: one of the best songs on the album was omitted from the CD. 'Like Uncle Charlie' was left off the CD, but guess what? - - the song does turn up on the 'Rich Man' CD as a bonus track! Odd.... More to the point, 'A Lot of Bottle' is absolutely great (even without 'Like Uncle Charlie') and I recommend it in the highest terms possible. Modern blues at its very best. You will savor this one.

Best of the British Blues,

This is my personal favorite of all the CBB albums, combining soulful slide guitar with deep-voiced blues vocals. There's a nice mix between vocals and instrumentals. The original tunes are catchy and the covers ("Seventh Son") are truly inspired. Pete Haycock plays scorching guitar and the whole band is tight, masterful, and very hip.I love this album.

It changed my life.,

Quite possibly the greatest album of all time. I'm sorry but 5 stars is just not enough for this goldmine of ground-breaking sonic oomph. Loud distortion lathered guitars, at least 15 years ahead of thier time, blend with simple, yet perfectly written and executed vocals. After listening to this album for fifteen years it still never fails to blow my freakin mind with its excellence.

The Climax Blues Band were Truely, Without a Doubt, one of THE MOST OVER-LOOKED and UNDER-RATED Bands of SEVENTIES!!!..( and EIGHTIES, for that matter!) They were ahead of their Time! Positive BLUES! It's a Sad World when "the Media" focuses SO MUCH Attention on a "Rich Bitch" like that Hilton Skank!

While listening to the disc, i noticed a couple "things" that weren't right when compared to the "Orignal Vinyl".
On the disc, the sequence of the songs were different and the disc lacked the song "Uncle Charlie" from the original...................any ideas why that occured? Still a wonderful selection of music for my tastes. john

I like the Climax Blues Band. They can play some of the dirtiest and most exciting blues rock I've ever heard and sound just as good as, oh, Eric Clapton and even Led Zeppelin's best moments. Or, they can change direction and focus on melodic pop songs with tasty instrumental variety, and make that work too! A truly talented band. Furthermore, they are a brilliant live band. At least back in the day they were. They can do it all.
