PreSchool-Grade 1. Through colorful photographs and simple text, Rotner and Kelly celebrate fatherhood in this companion to Lots of Moms (Dial, 1996). Dads are shown in their many roles?as playmate, worker, teacher, and helper. The book points out the simple things they do?wash dishes, change a tire, run errands, work on the car, etc. Fathers and children of many races, ages, and sizes lend diversity. Beginning readers will appreciate the easy text with many repetitive words and picture clues. Children can also use the marvelous photographs to create stories of their own. They help you when you need it. . . . Sometimes [they say,] `Not now!' . . . They really love you," but the photographs tell a richer story. Busy dads work at their laptops or fix a car; chore-doing dads include one washing dishes; a dad running errands uses his wheelchair to take his son with him to the ATM. A nice mix of dads at work range from the office to the police car, and when dads are showing you how to do stuff, it can be playing the violin or playing tennis; learning to write or learning to fish.
