It's the only cat furniture that actually looks more like "art" than an eyesore in my living room.

Am writing a review because I can't believe no one else has. We bought this because we didn't want a giant carpet monstrostity in the middle of the living room (don't worry, we have one of those too but elsewhere) but this is one of about a handful of products that I will say is worth every penny. It's takes a second for our guest to realize, and usually only after a cat plunks down on top, that it's cat furniture. We bought this even before we were able to bring the kitties home. It's the first place they chose to sleep when they arrived and the two still try to squeeze on the top level together even though they're huge cats now. Very sturdy, easy to assemble and very attractive. They don't really use the bottom cave too much except to hide out in when they're attacking each other, but they love to sleep here and play from the different levels.

I purchased this directly from the manufacturer some time ago, and was excited to see some cat furniture that doesn't look atrocious in the middle of a living room.

When it arrived, there were several pieces inside severely broken. As in, several badly fractured pieces of wood with sharp bits sticking out, on multiple pieces of the cat tree. There was no visible damage to the outside of the box, or to the padding immediately around these pieces, so obviously they had shipped me parts that were broken before they left the shop. Disappointing, but they quickly agreed to send me replacement parts when I e-mailed in some photos of the damage.

The design is nice, and very appealing compared to most cat trees. I didn't like the idea of an ugly beige carpeted monster in my living room, and this doesn't stick out as badly with my furniture. It's also tall, around 6 feet.

The workmanship, to be entirely honest, is terrible. Not "it's going to fall apart" terrible, but "B- project for a highschool shop project" terrible. Not what I expected for this much money.

The finish itself is poor quality and inconsistent from one side of a panel to another. The instructions require you to start by assembling the main box piece, but the alignment holes in the pieces make the box so grossly out-of-square that all the pieces as a whole are nowhere close to lining up. The left and right panels of the box, which are supposed to be identical, have very large visible variations between them. Several of the pieces are so bowed that it took a great deal of force and a vice to get the thing together in the first place.

Yes, it does look nice, and that's unheard of in the pet furniture world. However, there's a catch, as mentioned in the one-star review here - the build quality is nothing short of horrendously bad. I've assembled a fair bit of furniture for man and beast in my time, and this is far and away the worst experience I've had doing it. Once assembled, it looks more or less as it does in the photos, though there are visible gaps between joints. It's wobbly but not unusably so. But getting to this point is an ordeal.

Here's what to expect from the assembly process:

- Holes are completely out of alignment. You'll need a drill to correct this.

- Where parts of wood are pre-joined, they're crooked, making it unstable.

- The plastic nuts on the bottom panel are inconsistent and at least one was far too small to take the bolt it was supposed to. The best I could do was drill it out and use hot glue.

- The "feet" for the bottom panel are labeled as optional for "uneven floors". Well, given that the wood itself is uneven, they aren't going to help much. And if you don't put them on, the exposed metal they screw into will scratch up your hardwood floors. Get some furniture slider pads to cover these.

- The holes for the wooden dowel connectors, without exception, were either so tight that the pegs needed to be forcibly hammered in, or so loose that they'd fall out immediately. How can you mess this up?

- Damaged wood. One of the platform supports had a chip out of it that thankfully wasn't too hard to cover up, but it was quite obvious that it came this way from the factory, as it was individually wrapped, and the chip was not inside the wrapping.

I had no problems at all with this cat tree. I almost did not order it because of the bad reviews here. But the excellent design compared to most other cat trees convinced me to take a chance. Maybe the bad reviews got an earlier or damaged product.

Just got it yesterday, put it together in around an hour using only the included screwdriver. All the pieces fit and all the parts were there.

No problems and no complaints.

The worst thing about it was getting the box in the front door. It's pretty heavy.
