FastSite does exactly what its name implies-it quickly generates Web sites and corporate or departmental intranets. Version 2.0 introduces support for more file formats and new options for creating HTML.

FastSite 2.0 is suitable for users of all skill levels. You'll find the process of creating sites quite simple. First, you select the word-processing, spreadsheet or presentation files you want to convert; FastSite will create a complete site based on these files. After you arrange the files in a hierarchy, choose a Look (or style). FastSite now adds navigation buttons, places hyperlinks between pages and sections, and automatically builds your home page.

FastSite can easily upload your files to an FTP site, a Lotus Domino server or a designated location on your internal server. You can also import sites into your hierarchy. FastSite can convert GIF, JPEG, BMP, Metafile, PCX, TIF and CGM graphic files.

FastSite is also ... well ... fast. The Office 97 documents I converted were as good as those Word and Excel created using their own HTML-conversion logic.

However, I found FastSite 2.0 isn't yet compatible with Office 2000 Beta 2. Doubtless, Lotus will have this problem solved by the time Office 2000 ships.

FastSite has some limitations. The program offers no built-in security, so you can't create specific access levels for particular workgroup members. FastSite is also more labor-intensive than higher-priced programs, such as HTML Transit. Also, FastSite offers no browser-specific controls over the HTML you create.

Still, if your Webmaster is overburdened, and you want to build a site quickly and easily, we recommend FastSite.

I'm very new to web design - still learning HTML - but I've worked with "Fast Site" for about an hour. I just checked it out
but didn't read the instructions and am not familiar with icons on any of these programs. Considering my lack of knowledge, and not refering to the "Help" section I was impressed. It came with my computer so I don't know the cost. It has a wide selection of templates or backgrounds with buttons. I looked at every one of them and they all look handpicked. I was waiting for the 'duds' but there were non. Very eye-pleasing and lots of other features I have not tried yet.
