This troubleshooting guide to Domino server 4.5 powered by Lotus Notes covers: the new mail; scheduling; Web features of Domino; security; access; and Web creation and design. Lotus Notes release 4.5 offers users the same core functionality and database of the previous version of this groupware product, with added Internet and intranet capabilities. Together, with its Internet/Web server component, Domino offers users powerful cross-platform access and distribution of information. Lotus Notes 4.5 workgroup software features enhanced e-mail features, with support for POP3 and SMTP/MIME protocols. Domino 4.5 Internet/Web server software offers security, messaging, Web server applications and program development, as well as an HTTP server with a configurable cache. Domino 4.5 has improved support for Windows NT operating system and applications, as well as added features to enhance the operation of Windows NT. Other components of Lotus Notes 4.5 include Domino Action, which gives the ability to generate Web sites using Notes databases, and providing features like user-registration, file libraries and discussion threads. Lotus Notes offers calendaring and group-scheduling features as well. Features of the book include: a "Top Ten FAQs" chapter from Stream International's database (appearing as the first chapter of the book); an "@at-a-Glance" page at the beginning of every chapter which sets the stage and provides an overview of the chapter's contents; the text is further annotated by "Author Notes, Tips and Warnings" - special pieces of wisdom that supplement the straight how-tos; a "Time-Saving Tricks" chapter, with the emphasis on undocumented material; and a listing of the most common error messages and their solutions in the final chapter.

Certified Tech Support. The book includes 15 chapters of well-organized technical support questions and answers, oriented to the needs of the end user (rather than the Notes database administrator or system technologist).

The book answers questions on topics such as remote access and replication, Notes databases and forms, e-mail, calendars and schedules, and security. While there is no online or CD companion, the guide does provide two comprehensive indexes: The first contains a standard word and topic index, while the second lists an "Action Index" of commonly performed tasks in Notes. Together, these indexes allow you to quickly zero in on key issues. Although not a major flaw, it would be useful if users had the option of either using the book or searching the contents of Lotus Notes 4.5 and Domino Answers! If you're just starting learning Lotus Notes this book provides most of the answers you will need in the first 6 months. It's Question and Answer design is just right for solving problems quickly - a great reference - I wish they would do one with just programming tips!

I've been a Notes Administrator for about 4 years. This is a great book for all admins to have. There are some great Q&A's in here.
