5.0 out of 5 stars An intelligent guide: succinct, relevant and practical!, August 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Lotus Notes 4: Mastering Application Development (Paperback)
This is a refreshing change from the typical 800-page guide, disorganized, filled with poor writing, repetition and lack of practical details that seems standard in the Computer field. Mackenzie unerringly focuses on practical points that are invaluable for beginning developers: copying a database to clean up unused field names, caveats about using authors and readers fields, overuse (and abuse) of environmental variables, recommendations to compute values on the form rather than in column formulas, etc. etc. I came away thinking: this is a book written by a thoughtful and intelligent man who has remembered specific things that he struggled through and is generous in sharing his information. I would recommend this as a great SECOND book on Application Development. An added bonus is a useful and practical section on Lotus Script, enough get you started.

5.0 out of 5 stars Anticipation...., June 26, 2006
This review is from: Lotus Notes 4: Mastering Application Development (Paperback)
Mackenzie's book was very useful in teaching me how to correct and perfect my database designs. As a self-taught Notes designer, this book affirmed the things that I was doing right and gave great guidance on an "as-needed" basis for the knowledge I lacked. More than that, it was a valuable aid to my gaining some understanding of developer fundamentals. It's the right size (not voluminous and unwieldy) to keep handy on the developer/designer's desk. I'm ready - and waiting - for Mackenzie's Domino 7 version to become available anytime!
