Book Description

Aijyn, human slave to a ruthless vampire Lord, would never dare do anything to incur his wrath. Then, she fell in love...with his bride.

Rhiannon Donovan, daughter to the vampire Queen, would rather die than be made a bride to a demon lord. Aijyn, courtesan to the undead Daimyo of Kansai, can think of nothing more horrifying than his promise of eternal life. In the halls of the Blood Lotus Temple, the two women struggle against the chains of their fate, and find a solace in each other that could mean freedom for them both...or cost each of them their lives.

4.0 out of 5 stars I'm forced to say it's good... March 31, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Aijyn, a human slave falls for Rhiannon Donovan, the daughter to the vampire Queen, when Rhiannon is forced into an engagement with Aijyn's master an evil Vampire Lord of ancient Japan.

This is a dramatic book. Where other vampire books try not to take themselves too seriously, with occasional self conscious humour, this one does it's best to maintain the atmosphere of a serious period piece.

Being that the book is written in modern english the author asks you to suspend your disbelief by implying that what you are actually hearing the the common tongue of Vampires. At the times when it isn't in the common vampire tongue, you get the english "translation" of whatever language is being spoken. This allows the reader to always be in the loop. It's a style that works for the book ...most of the time. Occasionally the writer puts in a few common japanese words like "Arigato" and "-sama" to keep the Japanese feel, but because the illusion of understanding every language was already established, it does take you out a bit. Plus, the C-word (the c-word relating to female anatomy) is used on occasion, and though I realise that it is a much older word than people give it credit for, it's modern style/usage in this book it threw me out of the illusion of ancient japan more than once.

As a whole the book itself is well written. I would highly recommend this book for people who like vampire literature. I would strongly recommend it for people who want "literature" in their vampire literature. I wouldn't call it high-literature though, but it does make efforts to be that way. There are a lot of occasions when it succeeds in that endeavour.

I would not recommend this book for people who are reading for fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting read January 25, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Aijyn never expected to live after being taken as a sacrifice to Gohachiro, but she is made a slave and must do everything he asks – including look after his future bride, Rhiannon, when she comes to visit. Slowly Aijyn and Rhiannon become closer, putting both their lives in danger when they fall in love.

Have you ever thought about vampires being sensual? No, me either but in Lotus Petals it works, and well. This book is very deep and intense at times, and incredibly character orientated allowing the reader to really connect with the main characters and follow their story. I will admit I needed to be in the mood for a more serious book when reading this, but it is well worth reading. The ending definitely left me wanting to know what will happen next, and if love really will save them.

I received an e-copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sexy and Intriguing January 24, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I am a fan of vampires and always find them intriguing and sexy, if they are written correctly. Here in "Lotus Petals", the author certainly succeeds in not only making the vampire sensuous and hot, but also complex characters that you care about. The motivations and struggles of the characters pull you and make you either root for or against them and that is what make a compelling story after all. While this is definitely a steamy read, it is really about two women who have never really been in control of their own destiny's finding love and freedom within each other.
The story revolves around the beautiful human slave of a vampire, Aijyn, and the demon that is intended to be his bride in a political union, Rhiannon. Once these two women come together they realize just how much their lives have paralleled each other, both being slave with no true say in their own destiny. Despite knowing that it is forbidden and struggling against their desires, they can't help but fall in love.
Of course falling in love does lead Aijyn and Rhiannon into a fight for their very lives. This novel is suspenseful, full of rich detail, has complex characters and lots of actions (and not just in the bedroom). I fully loved reading it and am anxious for the next book to be released as this one leaves us with quite the cliffhanger! I NEED to know what happens with these characters next! I give this book an enthusiastic 5 stars! I can't wait for the next book in the series!

4.0 out of 5 stars Lotus Petals January 21, 2014

I received a free copy of this book for an honest review.

This is a difficult book for me to review. Vampires aren’t my favorite subject and, while I like some historical fiction, the geishas of Japan aren’t my favorite historical fiction subject. I’ve read some erotica, and find that a little goes a long way, but I haven’t had the desire to read lesbian erotica. All that being said, Lotus Petals was a surprisingly enjoyable read for me.

Aijyn and Rhiannon seem to be in a no win situation. They are both complex, both pathetic in some ways, and very strong in other ways. I couldn’t help but want for them to find a way to escape the control of Gohachiro and find a way to be together.

Lotus Petals is a well told story. I could feel the fear and anguish of Aijyn. I found it interesting how Brantwijn Serrah blended the worlds of vampires and Japan.

If you like erotica, or don’t mind it as part of a good story, I definitely recommend Lotus Petals.
