Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Why go to Disneyland when you can visit Lotusland? If you've never heard of this unique garden 100 miles north of the Magic Kingdom, you may want to plan a detour to Santa Barbara next time you're in Southern California. Tours are limited; however, this book enables garden enthusiasts to tour year-round the crowning achievement of opera singer Ganna Walska, who spent more than 40 years designing and nurturing the 37-acre property she called home. William B. Dewey, Gregory L. Padgett, and Robert Glenn Ketchum are among the photographers whose breath-taking color images of the eclectic, surreal gardens contribute to this volume.

From Scientific American

Thank goodness for rich, loony people. Many of the most beautiful cultural monuments have been financed by eccentrics with money, from Wagner's operas to many of America's museums. Lotusland is no exception. Ganna Walska, the self-proclaimed "enemy of the average," spent much of her 97 years living a life devoted to music, money, glamor, husbands (six), and, for decades, the building of the Lotusland garden collections. It is notable because of the rarity of many of the plants, including palms, cycads, and cacti; the sheer numbers she planted; and her eccentric designs. The book captures the splendor and off-center aesthetics, in both the photographs and the bemused and admiring tone of the text. Visit Lotusland, near Santa Barbara, California, or buy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely Book For Any Coffee Table!!!, January 5, 2008
This review is from: Lotusland: A Photographic Odyssey (Hardcover)
I adore this book..... It is the perfect combination of a great coffee table picture book as well as the perfect book containing a short history of Lotusland itself.

This book also briefly describes the individual gardens within Lotusland as well as sharing biographical information regarding the late Madame Ganna Walska, whom made Lotusland the wonderful place it is today for all to see.

This review is from: Lotusland: A Photographic Odyssey (Hardcover)
Books like this should be something that you'd be proud to have lying on your coffee table. Something to be used for inspiration. However, the design and photography in this book just don't cut it for living room display. That said, it does have a lot of information and images on the history of Lotusland. So buy it for that, not so much for the look of it.

I received this book very quickly. It was wrapped properly and came in a good shape. I enjoy your work very much. And of course I enjoy the book, too.
