2.0 out of 5 stars A Crushing Disappointment for Lou Fans
As a lifelong Lou Christie fanatic I purchased the vinyl release back in the 80's from Columbia Special Products. The idea of Lou covering the great Motown hits seemed like a natural.

Well....on paper it was a good idea, but the finished product is practically unlistenable. To say this record was made on the cheap would be an understatement. Each selection...

This recently released Lou Christie cd was released on the 51West Records & Tapes label/1982 CBS Inc. as LOU CHRISTIE DOES DETROIT Q 16260 has been remastered and sounds better than ever. Lou Christie Does Detroit was featured in Billboard's Retail section on September 10, 1983. Does Detroit was Lou Christie's tribute to Motown on it's 25th anniversary . Lou Christie was influenced by the Motown sound as shown by his February 1966 #1 smash Lightnin' Strikes. Lou traveled with Motown artists on the Dick Clark Caravan of Stars, including Diana Ross ( later the subject of Lou's She Sold Me Magic). Lou Christie has performed many of these songs live in concert, notably I'm Gonna Make You Love Me and What Becomes Of The Brokenhearted.

Well....on paper it was a good idea, but the finished product is practically unlistenable. To say this record was made on the cheap would be an understatement. Each selection sounds like it was done in one take, and Lou's vocals are consistently uninspired.

The one positive note is "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted" which is above average, but nothing close to compelling. The rest is dreck.

Don't say I didn't tell you so.
