this is a beautifully writtenbut clumsily translated short story by thomas mann. a youn and beautiful woman is married to an enormously fat and shy man. she also is having an affair with a young composer. they plan a party and write song for the husband to perform in a situation which embarrasses him greatly. the climax is horrible and i leave it to the reader to discover it for him or herself. i definitly recommend this little gem as a shortbut excellent read.
