I'll review this product, but I buy at it my local WalMart for 1/3 the $17.75 list price here. I've been using LouAna coconut oil for three months. I prefer it over the extra virgin varieties because it is flavorless. I began by using it to fry eggs - best eggs ever. I then used it to make grilled cheese sandwiches - browned nicely, crisply, and the bread and cheese flavor weren't buried by saturated-fat butter. I fried some potatoes in it and was highly impressed by the browning and flavor of the potatoes. I add a Tbs to my hot oatmeal for a little energy boost. I tried it in cookies, but I'll go back to butter for the flavor (only strike against it so far.) I use it as a daily facial moisturizer - softest skin ever, fine lines and crows feet greatly diminished. When I first bought it I massaged it on hubby's feet to see if it would alleviate the extreme dryness and occasional cracking - outstanding results. He used a pumice stone every few days and, combined with the daily coconut oil application, his feet looked decent and felt good for the first time in years. We stopped using it on his feet after a few weeks, but then his feet dried out again and so we started up again. I stopped short when I started applying it to his feet - his fungus-infested big toenail was growing in clear at the base! I had heard testimonials that it cleared up others' nail fungus, but I was skeptical. I can vouch that it works for at least one strain of fungus - you just need to apply it faithfully every day or two for several weeks. I also massage it into hubby's dry scalp once or twice a week and he declares it has diminished the flakes and itching by about 80%.Read more ›

This product is fine if you only want it for skin and hair. It is refined therefore it does not have the same health benefits as unrefined non-processed) oil. It does not taste or smell like coconut because of the process. Looking for health benefits....this is NOT it. buy this instead! Trader Joe's Organic Virgin Coconut Oil

I use this oil in my stir fries, sauteing, and even in dressings. Unlike the Virgin Coconut oil, it does not have a strong coconut taste/smell.

BUT--the primary way I use this is in my handmade cold process soaps! Coconut oil lends a wonderful bubbly lather, and makes a hard, white bar! I also use it in my homemade lip balms and lotions. This brand is a high and consistent quality!

I cannot figure out why it is so expensive here? Typically Amazon has the best prices, but this is more than triple what I pay at any of my local grocery stores (for the exact same size container--31.5oz for $5.98).

I love the idea that coconut oil is healthy for me, but the organic ones have a very pungent taste when using it for frying or baking. I use the organic ones on my skin and cook with the LouAna brand. It makes the best grilled sandwiches and minute steaks you've ever tasted. Try it, you'll like it!

I have used this coconut oil ever since I read some articles on the benefits of CO. I have used it on my dry skin...great.
I have used it to fry potatoes in...delicious, and I only paid $5.99 for it at Kroger and Meijer stores.
This is the one that was recommended by the doctor that wrote the articles on the advantages of Coconut oil.
Someone stated that theirs was yellowish...I'm guessing it was old...mine has always been white.
It is a great product.

I bought this at a local store and it was cheap in price compared to spectrum and better body coconut oils. I don't love it cause compared to my other experiences LouAna's coconut oil has a hint of plastic taste. I'm guessing its the bottle its in. Also, be aware that this coconut oil is not organic while the other brands i had were organic. Does it matter? I think so since i can tell right away that this isn't the best Ive tasted. Overall i like it for the budget im in but would i buy spectrum or better body coconut oil instead? Absolutely Yes!

Update:
I contacted the company to see the process they take with the coconut oil. Please be aware that this is not Virgin Coconut oil so heating is part of Louana's process. This means nutrients are cut down dramatically. So my rating went down to "3" since i always look forward on a product with strong health benefits. This wont have it as i want.

I am wavering between 3 - 5 stars, as this is a WONDERFUL product, but the AMZ price is OUTRAGEOUS! This can be had at Wal-Mart for $5.98, and it is perfect for so many uses. One is for making those "Bisquick-like" master baking mixes. It is perfect to use as shortening in baking or for frying. I buy this when I am making a baking mix. It is also wonderful for all the uses noted by others who have reviewed it. I discovered this a couple of years ago and now I have something to use alongside my Nutiva for when I want an unflavored, unscented product. It is cheaper and so versatile. I need allergen free products and Nutiva is my "Cadillac," but Lou Ana is my "all-terrain." BOTH are wonderful products with a wide variety of uses in allergen free (or not) kitchens! LOVE IT!!!
Give it a try, but please DO NOT pay these prices when it can be had SO MUCH CHEAPER. The product is FANTASTIC; the price, not so much.
