Definitly, an upgrade to their Punk,
This review is from: Loud & Clear (Audio CD)
In 1996, The Oc Supertones realesed "The adventures of the OC Supertones", where we could hear a hard punk sound combinated with awesome trumpets and tenor saxs, yet, the sound was still somehow....inmature. In 1997, "Supertones Strike Back" (just like Leia's father) was some heck of a mind-blowing album. Supertones tried now Hip-Hop and even some Swing in their second realese, adding to their band a trombone player. Anyway, in this second realese, it didn't matter the fact that they weren't playing that much their punk-ska sound (wich is the one that all boring ska bands have), because now they had a powerful, new,DIFFERENT and awesome ska sound, wich made DEFINITLY, the Supertones best album yet. 1999 Hits and so does "Chase the Sun", by the OC Supertones. Well, lets see...again the punk was less, to the point that the only song where they REALLY showed us that rocking sound was Dedication, (casually the best song in the record). What did they do this time? Well, they gave us, first of all a Rap mix, wich sometimes worked (Grounded) and sometimes didn't (Chase the Sun). Then, they included this weird...I don't how to call it....Caribean sound? , wich was sometimes good (Away From You) but mostly it wasn't. Now, the less punk did matter in Chase the Sun, because this time, they didn't showed us anything new AND good at the same time. WHY DID IT SEEMED THAT THE SUPERTONES WHERE PLAYING LESS PUNK EACH ALBUM THEY REALESED?........ Now, at the beggining of the end of the year 2000, OC Supertones realesed "Loud and Clear". I was afraid to listen to this album, I just thought the supertones were going to keep on playing less pure rock....MY MISTAKE. They take the best of their previous albums: PUNK (Jury Duty, 20-20) HIPHOPROCK(Pandora's Box) and yes...even.....CARIBEAN(Father's World, Lift me Up) and not only joined them but made them all better! Definitly recomended, this is the most MATURE record the Supertones have realesed, we can see that they have grown, (yet they keep that aggressive line in their lyrics)Probably, with the time, this is going to become my favorite Supertones CD. keep it up, OC.

The Best Yet,
By A Customer
This review is from: Loud & Clear (Audio CD)
A couple of months ago when I obtained a sampler of this CD, i was blown away. Of course there is always the fear that they put the best songs on the demo so that you are enticed into buying it...not the case. This is the best Supertones yet by far. Turning to a slightly harder more rap influenced style than they were back in the beginning but still true to their style, Loud and Clear provides you with all that you could crave out of an album. Song 5 Return to Revolution i think its called is my favorite song by far. If you have not yet picked this album up...what are you waiting for, order it here or go to your local Best Buy or christian book store.

personally, i would say, not only is this the best supertones cd, both musically and lyrically, but the best by any Christian band that ive seen as far as lyrics go. perhaps, because im not a fan of ska i have no problem with this album, which is definetly much more rock and much less ska. but, regardless of the music, which is certainly good, though not anything amazing, it is the lyrics that Matt wrote for these songs that makes this one of the best cd's i own. one of the previous reviewers wrote that they were very disappointed with the lyrics, however i find them to be the most, relavent, well thought out, and truely meaningful set of lyrics by a Christian band that ive seen. i think his words are amazingly well chosen and so full of meaning that most other Christian artists seem either to be too vague to be capable of anything this relevent or to shallow to really matter very much. "you escape reason, we escape wrath" his more meaning in it than entire albums by a lot of other Christian artists. in my opnion the music is good rock with a small bit of ska and and great lyrics.

Loud and Clear is not only the best Supertones CD but the best CD I own! I've never heard anything better! The songs "Wilderness" and "Father's World" make you want to get up and rock! Even my mom loves it! This CD is a must have! Thank you Supertones!

This band has made a lot of progress,

The Supertones have come a long way as far as songwriting. They have always had good ska/surf music, with singing and a lot of rap, which makes this band stand out from every other band, but there is a remarkable difference in the maturity of the lyrics with every album they put out. LOUD AND CLEAR is a fun, emotional, encouraging, and worthy album. The first song, "Escape From Reason" is directed at the church and the unbelieving world. If you have never heard of The Supertones, or just never heard them, they are a Christian band with a desire to spread the Word of God. The next song, "What It Comes To", with Toby Mac, has lyrics that make you think: "At a fork in the road only two ways to go/The one untraveled and the one that you know/The broad and the wrong or the tight and the right/So die in the dim or fight in the light". The eighth song, "Pandora's Box" talks about lifestyles and addictions such as Pseudo-Christianity, neo-orthodoxy, false philosophy, triple-x pornography, LSD, PCP, and self-idolatry. The truth is we can't toy with sin, and just stop whenever. This is an awesome album, so collect your cash and get it.

Best Supertones Yet,
By
This review is from: Loud & Clear (Audio CD)
With each CD, the Supertones keep getting better. Since their early pure-ska days to the current ska-core/rap, this band continues to improve its sound and keep up with the times. This CD is my favorite album yet. It definitely has some of the best work by the boys from Orange County. Escape From Reason is an excellent harder song, as are Pandora's Box and Return of the Revolution. On the ska side, 20/20 is an excellent song, and so are Father's World, Forward to the Future, and Another Show. The best songs on the album are Wilderness and Jury Duty, the latter clearly being one of the best Supertones songs ever. The whole CD is made up of great, rocking music that will both inspire you with its spiritual, well-written lyrics and the pure energy of the music. The Supertones still have many years ahead of them, as they are still one of the most talented bands in CCM. I would highly reccommend this CD to enthusiasts of both CCM and ska-core, as it excels as both of these. Christians will get the most out of because of the lyrics, but it also more than holds its own with the music alone.

GREAT SKA CD BUT NOT AS GOOD AS THEIR OLD STUFF.,
By
This review is from: Loud & Clear (Audio CD)
First of all I would like to say that I am very pleased with the new tones album. It definately has the most punk influence out of any of their CDs. There were only 2 songs that I didn't like. Return of the Revolution just gets flat out annoying and pandora's box is too rap-core sounding. It would be a good song if they added the ska riffs and had more horns. That is another thing that this album is also lacking. There is not quite enough horns. But there are great punk/ska tunes on this album like jury duty, forward to the future, another show, and spend it with you. There are also flat out ska songs like the worshipful lift me up, and the slow yet edgy tune of father's world. 20/20 is a pure punk song with no horns. It sounds so punky. It's awesome. Songs like escape from reason, what it comes to, and who could it be? are the hard-edged ska songs with a dash of rap influence. So, If you like to skank and jump around like crazy to some good ska music check out this album.

A Solid Release From The OC Supertones,
By PxPx (St. Louis) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Loud & Clear (Audio CD)
The latest studio CD (come on guys, give us a live album) from the OC Supertones is a very strong mix of Ska, Rock, Reggae, and Punk. Stand-out tracks include Jury Duty, Wilderness, Forward To The Future, Escape From Reason, and Return Of The Revolution. Like on Chase The Sun, the 'Tones continue to distance themselves from pure ska. But do not fear my rude boy, there is still a lot of ska to go around, and the bulk of it is some pretty good stuff. The songs just don't grab you the way Chase The Sun's tracks did (no Hanani hooks here, the closest thing is either Forward To The Future or Wilderness) and the overall CD isn't quite up to scale with Supertones Strike Back but that isn't to say this isn't an awesome buy. The band from OC still knows how to rock and spread an awesome message. The main problem is that there isn't much new here. Most of the songs either sound like they are from Chase The Sun with a couple from Strike Back thrown in for good measure (just listen to the opening of the CD, Escape From Reason, I thought they ripped me off and gave me Strike Back for a few seconds). Overall, what can you say? Morginsky can still write some awesome songs and the band sure does the writing justice. It is a really good cd (and DEFINETETLY worth getting), it's just doesn't sound as fresh or original as their past two.

Loud and Clear is an awesome CD for praising God. Matt has written songs that we are able to identify with; in our struggles with faith and where we stand. This CD is one that everyone will appreciate even if you don't like ska music!
