Hacienda burst on the scene a little too late in the year to reach the radar of a lot of reviewers as they were making their Best of 2008 lists. But I suspect that many will consider revising their scorecards once they've heard this authentic slice of summery pop with strong influences of vocal groups of the sixties. The live-in-studio aspect of this session makes an impression that sets Hacienda apart and above from many others in retro-pop category, including the much lauded Volume One debut from She & Him, which also reached out to audiences yearning for a simple and nostalgic sound. My favorite track remains the lead-off single "She's Got a Hold on Me" which sounds so desperately like a song you've heard before that it's almost hard to believe it's an original. The rest of the record lacks the fuzz and buzz of this single, but the warm simmer of songs like "Useless and Tired," the plucky piano pop of "Little Girl," and the gorgeous cover of Sonny Bono's "Baby Don't Go' make this a mighty enjoyable listen from start to finish.

Just saw these guys open for Los Lonely Boys in Green Bay last night. Unexpected surprise!! They sound like something from the 60's. Check them out! You won't regret it!
