I first saw this band in concert at Loufest and liked them. So I got When I Explode and this one. What a maturation! I liked the earlier stuff but it instantly evokes "garage band". They have come of age with Loud Wars and are more enjoyable than ever.

I would classify this album as math rock. More so than their previous albums, which are more indie rock/dance-punk. I'm not a huge fan of the genre, but something about this album keeps drawing me back. The songwriting and performing is really intricate, and the production is excellent. It might be too much for some people, and might seem too derivative for fans of The Dismemberment Plan, but I don't think we have enough really intelligent rock music today, so I really welcome this. I'd love to see these guys live.

So Many Dynamos are fantastic at creating fast, noisy and fun indie rock music. This album is as great as the first two, a must-have for your collection. Perfect for the following playlists: Best of 2009, Chris Walla - Wow, Midwest Awesome-ness, or "I knew this band before they got huge and famous." Check out the song "The Novelty of Haunting" for a taste of their trademarks: quick rhythyms + witty lyrics. One of the best live shows around too, I promise.
