I first saw this band in concert at Loufest and liked them. So I got When I Explode and this one. What a maturation! I liked the earlier stuff but it instantly evokes "garage band". They have come of age with Loud Wars and are more enjoyable than ever.

Catchy math rock,
By Brent R. (Chicago, IL USA) - See all my reviews

I would classify this album as math rock. More so than their previous albums, which are more indie rock/dance-punk. I'm not a huge fan of the genre, but something about this album keeps drawing me back. The songwriting and performing is really intricate, and the production is excellent. It might be too much for some people, and might seem too derivative for fans of The Dismemberment Plan, but I don't think we have enough really intelligent rock music today, so I really welcome this. I'd love to see these guys live.

So Many Dynamos are fantastic at creating fast, noisy and fun indie rock music. This album is as great as the first two, a must-have for your collection. Perfect for the following playlists: Best of 2009, Chris Walla - Wow, Midwest Awesome-ness, or "I knew this band before they got huge and famous." Check out the song "The Novelty of Haunting" for a taste of their trademarks: quick rhythyms + witty lyrics. One of the best live shows around too, I promise.

The Dynabros melted my face,

In "the Loud Wars," St. Louis-by-way-of-Edwardsville-Illinois-based So Many Dynamos brings the jarring, dance-poppy indie rock that all the kids love to listen to. If you like Q and Not U, The Dismemberment Plan and Les Savy Fav, this album should be right up your alley.
Track highlights include "Artifacts of Sound" - a great introduction to the album and the Dynabro's tightly syncopated sound, "Oh, the Devastation!" - a track that lets guitarists Ryan Wasoba and Griffin Kay shred over drummer Norm Kunstel's flamin' hot chops, and "Friendarmy" - a tune that was built for face-melting sung by none other than king facemelter himself, Aaron Stovall. I can't recommend this album enough. If you don't buy it, you're making a _big_ mistake. --> Loud Wars

I didnt like this cd one bit. Believe me i tried...mostly based on their awesome cover and what not. I couldnt get into the music....it has some cool riffs here and there and some cool effects and synth but i dont know...sorry? i didnt think it was that good. Also whats with the whole album "trying to shove their 'nothing' down our throats" oh well...
P.S. i wont be responding to the inevitable comments this "review" might get. |
