5.0 out of 5 stars Inside the Head of an 80's Rock Star, December 10, 2005
This review is from: Loud Whisper (Paperback)
Remember the early 80's when every rock star seemed to be a Bowie or a Sid Vicious look-alike? Maybe I'm exaggerating or maybe Clifton Snider has got his characters so right he's molded my memories.

Anyway, Loud Whisper (what a great title!) will ring the chimes of anyone who came of age when Glam Rock and Punk Rock had reached their apogee and, like Adam (Zed) Avery, came tumbling down in a self-indulgent and, in Adam's case, crippling, drug-induced fall.

Telling the same story from different points of view (the band members, Adam's friend and lover (s), a rock reporter, and Adam himself) isn't an original idea (hey, Robert Browning did it; so did Lawrence Durrell in The Alexandria Quartet, a book Adam would love), but Snider's tale of rock overkill is unique--a story about a bisexual's spiritual, physical, and professional recovery. It would make a terrific movie, as good as if not better than Velvet Goldmine.

Buy it and read it. You'll love it as I did.
