Eclectic and exciting,
By Jessie :-) (WA state) - See all my reviews

I agree- the Tinkers have a style all their own that is dynamic and exciting. I love that while the music is primitive it also has great technical elements. How does he play so fast?! This was my first Tinkers CD and I still like it best- in part /because/ of the vocals. It's a good contrast to occasionally have a context for the music and there are definitely much worse vocalists than Mr. Shaw out there. Yes, the CD's are not as great as a live performance. I concede that it's very difficult indeed to capture guys in kilts dancing on pub tables (while they're playing) on a CD. Because Tinkers have so much "personality" the CD isn't a perfect substitute, but it will at least sustain you until the band returns to your area.

Fun folk bagpipe and drum band!,

Saw them live, bought the cd, and now I have hours of bagpipes blowing out my truck windows. The drums, various drones, and occasional vocals add to the variety. I love 'em!

These guys are amazing. I got to see them at the local Highland Games in my area last month. They throw one hell of a live performace. I picked up two of their CDs at the games, and just recently purhased two others. This album is particularly intriguing, as it introduces the brass horn, along with the digderidoo... which make for a very interesting blend along with the pipes. I think sometimes the low bass of the didge muddles some of the other sounds, but I could care less... this albums is pretty high energy, with excellent piping, and relentless drums. Wiked Tinkers, and Loud have barely left my CD player since I bought them. My favorite tracks on this particular album are # 4,5,and 6..Gaelic Aire, 6/8 Marches, and I Will Go. I would disregard the disdain others have shown for the vocal tracks. They aren't that bad, and add some variety...and seem very earnest at heart. I see nothing wrong with that. If you like bagpipes, chances are you will like this...a strong 3rd release from these guys, check it out if you get the chance.

Ah, the wee skirl o' the peep,

I'm always looking for something new. I bought a Norwegian rock and roll record the other day. So I saw an ad for "Loud" by something called the Wicked Tinkers in the back of a Scottish goods magazine. Decided to check 'em out on Amazon, read a few reviews. Ah! One used for sale. Why not, life is short. Well I received my package and put the CD in. I heard some droning instruments and then...HEY! did you think I would spoil it for you? Let's just say that they play with passion and abandon, whacking away at the drums, and I pretty much agree with all of the other reviews. It's not your father's bagpipe album. I gave a copy to a friend who listens to it while he does his boxing workout. Cool!Note to the Tinkers: you guys are better when you simply play and not sing. (But don't worry, there's only one track with singing on it here.) I wish the current crop of tattoo'd and souless "rockers" out there would take note of this music. It's heavier in the Highlands, lads and lasses!

This CD makes a person who doesn't know how to dance WANT to learn. They are very energic and it is contagious!! "Whisky Supper" and "Wicked Tinkers" are also great CD"s. Saw them at White Horse Coffee & Tea Co. at Sutherlin, Oregon. They performed outside in heat over 100 degrees and it didn't slow them down a bit.

They just keep getting better!,

This album has a more professional sound quality than Hammered and the music just keeps getting better. Exciting pipes and drums, exotic didgeridoo and bronze age irish horn. They are true musicians. I've made converts out of fierce bagpipe haters with this one!

Good music,

This CD was given as a gift to my husband and he really enjoys it. He listens to it everytime he's in the car. I also enjoy listening to it when I'm in the car. This is a really good CD for anyone who enjoys bagpipes and celtic music.

Something Wicked This Way Comes......,

The Wicked Tinkers put on the best shows ever!
The music is very hi quality, fun, and unashamedly uplifting! The kind of music you think of when you want good time with great friends! Just the thing you want to hear when you are feeling down or need that boost to get you thru the day. And let the naysayers sit at home and nit pick about the singing all they want...songs like "I Will Go" will move you! Especially if you are a serviceman or a serviceman's family member. Keep on going guys!!!

wicked indeed,

This is my first Wicked Tinkers CD. They are a band with a great name and an even better sound. I have been a fan of bagpipes for a long time, but never have I heard such raw emotion and enthusiasm before. This is not the lone piper blowing a mournful tune. This CD should get anyone who listens to it stomping their feet and grabbing a pint of Guinness! I'm looking forward to hearing their other CD's.

Dismal Let-Down After The Real Thing,
By A Customer
This review is from: Loud (Audio CD)
I went to the Scottish Highland Games in my area of the country, and had the joy of seeing the Wicked Tinkers live. There was no one better at the games, although Golden Bough came close - completely different style. Wicked Tinkers was loud, irrepressable, joyous, and fun! Unfortunately, their CD's are a sad, pale imitation of the real deal, they lack the vitality of the live experience (sound quality is terrible). Perhaps they need better mixing at the sound studio?
