Sam, I appreciate your honesty!
Mark E. Schueler
I bought the LP because I don't have a tape deck anymore and it sounds as good as ever.

25 years later, this is still the funniest comedy album I have ever heard.

There's no sinner like a deformed saint...
Find this and copy it- give it to your friends. Then get his others ('Have You seen me lately' is better than 'Live from hell'- both are miles better than 'leader of the banned,' which kinda, well- doesn't suck but barely) This is comedy GOLD. I've got it on vinyl and cassette. I first heard this around 1989 at a friend's house- I couldn't believe that someone could think up such things. And I couldn't believe that anyone would have the balls to say them out loud. I was shocked. I wanted to be that man (in some ways so did the late great Bill Hicks- who was mightily influenced by Kinison, it shows on his more misanthropic material).
Kinison wasn't content with base satire and comedy- the man spit pure venom, with potence, force and accuracy that have yet to be equalled. Outside of watching someone disembowel themselves onstage and toss their guts at you (and that wouldn't be funny, original, but not funny)- you won't find ferocity like this elsewhere.... Put it this way- if you think The Daily's Show's Lewis Black is a daring or edgy comic- give ole Sam a spin. The 'Jesus on the cross' bit will leave you a newer, better person.
Most comedians are simpering fools with 'isn't it odd...' mundanities and "d'ya ever notice how..." Comdey by numbers. connect the dot jokes... Ugh. Kinison stands over all of them- he comes in glory to judge all comics- the living and the dead.

This album is an absolute comedic masterpiece. Sam was one of the most incredible comics ever to hit the stage, and this is him at his best. The album was released shortly after his appearance on Rodney Dangerfield's HBO special, which brought him instant fame, and much of the material from that appearance is on this album. All you need to know is that you will laugh as hard as you ever have when you listen to Louder Than Hell.

Truly one of the greatest comedy albums EVER. Recorded at Sam's peak, Louder Than Hell was " a bull in the china shop" of recorded comedy, tackling topics such as AIDS, divorce, terrorism and charity. Never politically correct and never dull.
The only disappointments with this recording is, it's too short, and not available on CD (c'mon Warner Bros.!)

Have had this cassette since its release. Since it's not available on CD, I had to get creative to track down a working cassette player and copy it into a digital format. Sound quality of that effort is not so good, but at least I have it for my ipod...

One of the funniest stand-up sets ever recorded. Nothing is off limits for Sam. No one performing today, save maybe Louis CK or Bill Burr or Jim Norton, does stand up at this level. When are they gonna release this comedy masterpiece on CD?

C'mon, it's 2011, it's about time to get this thing digitized....

First, why the hell is this not on CD? When I first heard this (on cassette tape!) I could not stop laughing. I copied it from a friend, and soon wore out the tape, so I bought my own copy. As cassettes (and players) became obsolete, I ended up finding a copy on mp3. Again, why this isn't on CD is beyond me. 25 years later, this is still the funniest comedy album I have ever heard. The bit about World Hunger may be the most inappropriately hysterical 5 minutes ever recorded. Sam's thoughts on the Bible and homosexuality are politically incorrect, but I dare you to listen and not laugh. Out loud. Uncontrollably. And if Sam were still alive, I would write him a personal thank you for introducing "Capital T".

Sam Kinison was a great comedian in the 80's and most folks that remember the 80's (who aren't easily offended) would find this album to be funny. I had this on tape and lost it years ago and couldn't believe what they are going for these days! I bought the LP because I don't have a tape deck anymore and it sounds as good as ever. I would recommend this album for any comedy fan.

Listening to his first album is like listening to a virtuoso playing his finest art. Toss political correctness out the window and get ready for stomach-cramping humor that will leave you rolling on the floor. The acoustics are wonderful, and the audience was spicy enough to give Sam a chance to use his silver bullets on hecklers at the beginning of the album.

Understandably, the Kinison estate won't re-release this gem on CD as they are waiting for the highest bidder to purchase the copyrights for this property.

Sam Kinison's material is fresh as it went beyond the envelope of comedic topics, and everyone in the audience were running out of breath from laughing so much from one screaming punchline to the next.

Mr. Kinison's sense of timing in delivery is impeccable as he copied his father's oratory skills to make a skeptical audience true believers in his routine.

Andrew "Dice" Clay doesn't even come close. He's a mere penny compared the cost of buying this album.

For every other person wanting to know how comedy is done, listen to this difficult-to-find-treasure, and become humbled and enlightened by it.

"OH, GOD, IT'S THE REVELATION!!!... HE WOULD COME TO THE EARTH AND SPEAK OF THE ALPHABET! UR-AGH!"
