The Yale University Art Gallery (1951–53) and the Richards Medical Research Building of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia (1957–61) were amongst the first manifestations of Brutalism and seminal works in the history of modern architecture. Kahn’s most important later works include the First Unitarian Church, Rochester, New York (1959–67), the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, La Jolla, California (1959–65) and designs for the new capital in Dhaka, Bangladesh (1962–74).
