I admit that I'm not a fan of the modern Vuitton line or even cared about its history before this book arrived. I have been building a few trunks and suitcases as a hobby and bought this book on a whim thinking with 500 pages it must have at least some valuable info.

I wish I found this book earlier. I was just going to look at the pretty pictures to get some ideas, but have found myself reading every page, engrossed in the history. As someone already familiar with leatherworking and woodworking, but not so educated on the dying art of traditional trunk making, this book addresses in great detail many design considerations I've struggled with.

I suppose that there aren't many others out there like me, but if you want a very complete reference on the history/design of trunks from a leading player's perspective, I strongly recommend this book.

Heck, I'd even recommend reading this book just to help you pick up snobby hot girls with tacky fake LV bags! You will know so much about the family history you could pass as a bastard Vuitton cousin.

There is just something captivating about trunks; they spark the imagination and allow us a glimpse of a life more refined. The trunks highlighted - are nothing short of divine. This weighty volume is beautifully produced with page after page of wonderful photographs and colorful history.

WOW! how can i describe such perfection? this book is an amazing book. using it as merely a coffee table book really would not do this book justice. the pictures are so perfect, i'd like to rip out pages and frame them, but won't. if you love history and you love to read, this book is for you. the pictures are an added bonus! i was amazed with what is written in this book - so much information on the history of trunk making, dating back to the 18th century. there are elaborate stories on various french design houses such as CHANEL; stories on how louis vuitton became involved with steiff teddy bear company and the vintage classic doll from the early 19th century: juron or something? it's all so interesting, you'd never know how fascinating it is to have an louis vuitton piece, unless you see and learn about everything behind the scenes.
they should use this book to interest students into history, hahhaaha!
excellent book. you will not be disappointed!!

I purchased this book as a gift for my wife for Christmas (she pretty much let me know it was #1 on her Christmas gift list!). It really is a phenomenal piece of art, at nearly 500 pages and over 800 photos and illustrations including a silkscreened cover and slipcase, the cost of producing the book itself has got to be substantial. A must-have for Louis Vuitton fans, it gives you a wonderful glimpse into the history of this long-standing fashion brand. See link for a visual tour of 100 Legendary Trunks: [...]

This sumptuous book is for the armchair traveller as well as one who admires old world craftsmanship and history. A fascinating account of an old firm still doing incredible (and expensive) work. The reproductions are outstanding and the writing informative and thorough.
