About the Author

Laurie Parker has enjoyed writing rhyming narratives, lyrics, and verse since early childhood. Another of her long-time favorite pastimes is cutting and pasting paper to create collages such as the ones used to illustrate her books.

Parker is a self-employed artist who crafts a unique line of whimsical pins which she currently sells at art shows and retail events throughout the South.

She is the author of four other ryming regional books. Her alphabet book series inlcudes Mississippi Alphabet and Texas Alphabet. In Parker's first two books, she wove more than 300 state town names into charming stories told in ryming narrative: Everywhere in Mississippi is the adventure of a dog named Skippy, whose owner searches for him throughout the state, while All Over Alabama is the delightful account of an extended family of frogs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific!, November 4, 2002

This review is from: Louisiana Alphabet (Hardcover)
THis is a terrific Louisiana book for kids. It helps teach the alphabet but as they get older, it will help teach the culture of Louisiana that is far different than other parts of the country- crawfish, gumbo, zydeco etc. Then as they get older, it will help them learn the name of the town of Louisiana and if you combine that with a map, you have geography.

The rythm of the book makes it an easy one to read and the pictures only tie right into the words. The colors are bright and big and bold and the book is a lot of fun.

Enjoy.
