Able to be used in tight spots, this ladder unfolds to provide a compact and sturdy way for you to reach high-up storage areas. Not only does this ladder save you space, but it also saves you money on building expensive staircases. The Louisville Premium Attic Ladder folds and unfolds quietly. When you're ready to use it, simply tug on the ergonomic T-Handle that's designed to give you a secure grip for easy opening.

Built for Strength and Safety
Each Premium Wooden Attic Ladder is built to withstand 250 pounds of pressure (person included), and features grooved steps to provide maximum traction as you move up and down. Heavy-duty hinges not only help the ladder unfold smoothly, but they also keep it from wobbling dangerously as you climb. The Louisville Premium Attic Ladder meets safety standards set by the American National Standards Institute and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Designed for Easy Installation and a Proper Fit

I, as did another contributor, bought one of these from Home Depot, less than $1C. The ladder itself is of satisfactory quality for what you pay, but the installation instructions and installation hardware are pathetic. 4" nails, roofing nails, perforated strap, and silly "shim" (4X5 " piece of ¼ " plywood) would make installation difficult and dangerous IMHO. Also, IMHO, the 250# rating is understandably underrated, particularly if SECURELY attatched to the ceiling trusses.
.
I secured two pieces of 1X4 across opening at ends and just set the ladder on them, in the opening. I then, after cutting a full length shim to bring both sides in contact with trusses, bolted it fast with 8~ 5/16 bolts of varying lengths to the truss on each side. "Nail it up" per instructions? Hang it with the perforated strap and roofing nails? Silly, dangerous and difficult!
.
P.S.: Disregard posts alluding to "gas cylinders" on this ladder. That's another more expensive ladder(if with gas cyinders). This one has 2 coil extension springs to retract it. Works very well, but hang on to it as it goes closed.

Ordered this for my daughters garage attic. was shipped very quickly and arrived in good shape. Not the strongest ladder on the market but for the price seems to work just fine. Her friend is 220lbs and he uses it without a problem. Read the instructions on how to install....makes it easier than just trying to stick it in the hole.

AFTER 1 YEAR:
This ladder performs the same as it did the day it was put in..no broken or loose pieces.

Easy to install and sturdy, for the money. One star off for the ridiculous 4"x5", 3/16" thick plywood "shim" and the installation hardware. The straps for temp hanging it with the roofing nails are ok, but the nails for final fastening are a waste, unless you are an expert carpenter. I used 2"x 5/16" lag screws with drilled 1/4" pilot holes. If I'd had a framing nailer I'd have used that. Also, once its in and open, your 22 1/2" wide hole is a lot narrower at the top with the ladder-springs and all, but that's the nature of attic stairways. Before installing, get yourself a good supply of shims, etc. My trusses were almost 23" apart, and I had to use a 5/8" thick plywood strip shim the entire length plus the few door shims as expected, making my ladder only 22 1/4" actual wide. Anyway, my suggested procedure would be: Make sure all electrical wiring is clear of your installation site. Rough in your opening as instructed. Put the new ladder up in the attic, across the joists. Nail or screw 2 scrap woods across the opening, at sheetrock elevation. Guy above sets the ladder in the opening, resting on the scrap wood, using shims as seems needed from above. He attaches the provided temporary support straps, using screws on the ladder side, screws or nails on the joists. Then the guy below removes the scrap wood from across the opening and pulls open the new ladder (easier if you've already knotted on the pullcord). He also puts your construction ladder back up, so you don't forget and use the new one before it's fastened in. Adjust stairway position and enhance shimming. Drill pilot holes and set lag screws *through shims* (easy with a 7/16 nut driver on a drill), or use framing nailer through shims for easiest and most secure final fastening. Remove temporary support straps. Trim ladder length as instructed. Enjoy all that new attic storage space, but remember it gets hot and cold up there!

This ladder is extremely effective and is extremely easy to install. It has several different sizes to choose from, which can be modified to fit different floor heights. The gas cylinders are a great improvement over the old spring-loaded systems. I would definitely buy this again!

I would reccomend this attic stairway. I bought it to replace my old one with spring arms that broke. The new hydralic arms leave a lot more space when taking boxes up to the attic. If you want to install yourself no worries it is very easy. buy one!

I can't believe it took us 13 years to get one of these. We absolutely love it. A couple of things to be aware of though. The instructions make it look as though the typical person (with the help of at least 2 others) could install this. That may be true but I wouldn't step on it. And the kit comes with 4 NAILS to put it into place!! They are crazy if they think this will do the trick. We had it done by a professional carpenter and he used several large screws that he drilled into place. It took him and two others to do it. Also when you go to adjust the steps so they are flush with the ground, you need to have the appropriate tools to saw the bottoms of the ladder.
We put the same framing around it that is around all the doors in our home and painted it the same as the others. It look very professional and works great!!

Junk ! Crap !

Poorly slapped with staples . Wood corners don't align . Ply wood is cheap . Hardware missing .The only thing this is good for is firewood , and that is from myself a 37 year maintenance / carpenter . A waste of time . Off to the hardware store to order sight seen first .

The ladder arrived sooner than expected and was shipped in a sturdy cardboard box that helped ensure no damage during shipment. As expected, it was heavy and it required two persons to manage the installation, one in the attic and the other on the floor. The temporary braces that were part of the included hardware made the initial fit-up easy, and in fact I bent them over and made them part of the permanent installation. I did not use the included large nails, having had a huge amount of problem with nail removal from the original ladder, which had lasted for almost 30 years. Instead, I bought and used bolts, washers and nuts, which made the job a lot easier.

We are very pleased with this product.
