Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 4-8?Unlike some books with similar titles, this one has the advantage of actually including information on a lot of players and not just six or seven. Profiling 100 sluggers, Crisfield covers athletes from the past, those still active, and even a few stars from the Negro Leagues. Some fans may quibble about players left out, and all of those who are included may not deserve to be, but readers will be delighted with the short, informative articles. The entries are arranged alphabetically and present the essential facts of each man's career, as well as mentioning the unique aspects of his record. Some players (such as Henry Aaron and Ted Williams) receive longer entries. Black-and-white action shots and portraits appear throughout. The statistics are current through the 1997 season and there are enough of them to give this title some usefulness as a reference source. The book's layout, comprehensiveness, and clearly written text are sure to be a hit with baseball fans.?Todd Morning, Schaumburg Township Public Library, IL

From the Publisher

A treasury of the biggest hitters to ever step to the plate with the legendary Louisville Slugger bat in hand. Babe Ruth never stepped to the plate without one. Neither did Hank Aaron, Ted Williams, Ty Cobb, or any of the other of the sluggers of yesterday and today. Not to mention the hometown hero that knocked one into the parking lot at last night's Little League game. This book gathers together the stories and statistics of these great players.
