Extremely frequent misspelling errors to the extent it detracts from the substance of the work. The disastrously poor quality of the spell check distracts from any enjoyment of the content. The individual responsible for quality control should be fired for incompetence and/ or sheer negligence. I want my money back and have come to distrust ebooks from Amazon insofar as the reader must be aware that any ebooks can be easily edited and are merely expensive poor substitutes for the accuracy in editing of hard copies. I wonder of the author has failed to examine the e book, or is she so lazy and disinterested in quality control that so many errors to undetected? This sloppiness is unforgivable and pathetic.

In her well-written, thoroughly research non-fiction book bout Lourdes, Ruth Harris, an academic non-Catholic, does an excellent job of giving objective perspective about Lourdes, the people, its region, its heritage to help one appreciate and understand the impact and how the apparitions at Lourdes were perceived and absorbed into the culture and folklore that is unique to the region. Her objectivity in no way diminishes the wonder and miracle of it all. In fact, her objectivity make the apparitions at Lourdes all the more worthy of belief and credibility. It's a perfect book to read in preparation for going to Lourdes.

Ruth Harris is a well-known scholar of French medicine and culture in the 19th century. She has written a heavily documented review of this extraordinary event and views it in its contemporary framework. Her work takes us up until the start of World War I.

This book is heavy into the background of Lourdes in a spiritual way. There are a few illustrations concerning the main attractions of the town. However it is a lengthy essay on spirituality and todays world. For those of a religious bent this book is a worthy reference to Christianity and the working of this in the world.
