5.0 out of 5 stars Peter McWilliams is simply brilliant
Ok, i'll admit- i'm a book worm. I probably read about 60 books a year. In all of my years of reading, especially of everything i read in the personal growth field, this is truly one of the best books, if not the best book i've ever read. it is brilliant. You'll laugh and cry all the way through this book, and you'll forever cherish it as one of your most prized...

1.0 out of 5 stars Great Disappointment
I have recently purchased the tape series of Love 101 much to my disappointment. If you are looking for a little reinforcement and a different perspective on how to accomplish self-esteem, these are not the tapes for you. However, if you enjoy listening to introductions to clips of nostalgic music and comedy routines then you might want to give this a try. I found...

5.0 out of 5 stars After myself, I love Peter McWilliams!, June 21, 2004

This review is from: Love 101 : To Love Oneself Is the Beginning of a Lifelong Romance (The Life 101 Series) (Paperback)
This book is terrific. Conventional romantic ideals have led a lot of us down a lot of blind alleys and into unneccessary pain and disappointment. These ideas portray an attractive, attainable alternative. Thank you, Peter.

Peter McWilliams is so tuned into what should be obvious to us all. Love 101 is particularly good company while driving "alone". It is insightful, humorous and I play it often to keep me tuned in and tuned up.

5.0 out of 5 stars 2 Different Experiences - Book and Audiobook - Both SUPERB!, September 3, 2009
Peter was a brilliant author and creative genius and was taken from us too soon. This book Love 101 is probably the most brilliant text on self-esteem ever written and the audiobook is a multimedia adventure that will make you smile. By the end of this, you will understand what a wonderful person you really are and feel a bit amazed that this wonderful guy could see the real you in there. This is NOT one of those dry self-help books in the slightest, this is full of humor and kindness where Peter wraps his arm around your shoulder and says "Come my friend, I have someone you should know."

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book a must read, July 3, 2011

I love this book. I don't totally agree with everything in it but it definitely made me aware to the life I was already living to be ok with it. Now with that being said and trying to not feel guilty about not being in a relationship at the age of 43 I ended up meeting someone. So I had already thought it fine to be a lone but I did have a nagging feeling of uncertainty about it till I read the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Peter McWilliams was a genius., February 16, 2010

Buy and read everything you can find by this guy! He's brilliant! All his books should be in every library. You'll find plenty of quotes from people he believed said it better than he ever could with lots of terrific reference material. You'll refer back to these books for years.

I also highly recommend his book "Ain't Nobody's Business If You Do - The Absurdity of Consensual Crimes in Our Free Country" (you can read it online but you'll want your own copy), and "LIFE 101 - Everything We Wish We Had Learned About Life in School - But Didn't"). I lend these books to friends and never get them back and have to buy additional copies.

McWilliams died in 2000 while out on bail fighting an arrest in California for using marijuana for medical purposes. He was required by the judge to turn in urine samples to make sure he wasn't still using it while on bail. The judge also told his attorney he could not tell the jury that McWilliams had AIDS and had used the marijuana to ease vomiting (he died choking on his own vomit).

Read ALL his books, share them, give them as gifts. You'll love Peter McWilliams!

And NO, you can't borrow my copies.

4.0 out of 5 stars Teaches self-love and self-esteem, but deprecates marriage., September 11, 1999
This review is from: Love 101 : To Love Oneself Is the Beginning of a Lifelong Romance (The Life 101 Series) (Paperback)
This book is excellent for persons who are unhappy and can't put their finger on why. It teaches you how to stop beating yourself up emotionally and create a "sanctuary" in your mind where you can explore how you want to feel, and what you want to be and do in life. The author is correct in pointing out that you should love yourself, because you are the only one who will always be there for yourself. I am a Christian, and I advise Christians to turn to Jesus once they've reached the limits of what this book can provide. Your faith will help you recognize what these limits are. Christians should remember that, since God and Jesus love you, you should be able to do the same. OK, back to the book. It correctly deprecates infatuation, which produces the notion that "love will always make everything all right" in many people. However, the book goes further, and implies that a successful marriage will only be based on one of several purely practical types of relationship, no love required. There is an entire chapter of quotes, mostly from entertainers, which belittle marriage and even recommend adultery! The possibility of a mature, mutual love developing within and constantly nurturing a marriage is not considered. I think many people can use this book. However, they need to take a hard look at which parts are beneficial for them and which are not.
