A must read for all women who are searching for love in all the wrong places,
By MBacon "MBacon" (Atlanta, Georgia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Love Addicted: One Woman's Spiritual Journey Through Emotional Dependency (Paperback)
I have read this book "Love Addicted" and being a long term friend of the author's Debora Ricks, it was truly an eye opener! Reading my sister-friends journey through her love addiction. The book was written with such eloquence and revelation that the reader would be given answers on why they search and love men that are abusive, controlling, and powerful. Debora takes you back to her relationship with her father, which was an abusive one or she shares her intimate secret of being raped as a child by a stranger. These two men had an impact on how she perceives and accepts men that were not loving - her father and a stranger who raped her.Debora, an intelligent sister. An attorney by trade, a mother by choice lets you into her secret world to help others who have travelled this same path of abuse, heartbreak, struggle and then triumph. A spiritually written book with quotes that will move you through each chapter from Zora Neal Hurston to Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching. I recommend this journalistic reflection of a sister-friend whose eloquence in her writing and her evolving into her own, makes it a must read for those who are searching for love or need help in breaking their addiction - "Love Addiction"

In the name of Love,
By The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers (RAWSISTAZ.com and BlackBookReviews.net) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Love Addicted: One Woman's Spiritual Journey Through Emotional Dependency (Paperback)
'This book is about the messy, protracted journey through love and relationship addictions, toward self-love, wholeness and power.' -- Deborah RicksAfter surviving yet another doomed-from-the-start love affair, Deborah Ricks took her daily journal, sat in front of her PC and preceded to share her story. She gives readers a glimpse into the mind of an addict, albeit a relationship addiction. Deborah also shares insight into what she believes is the genesis of her addiction to men and relationships; a troubled relationship with her father. Years of hurt, disappointment, betrayal, abuse, misuse and resentment calcified into a seething contempt and extreme bitterness for an entire segment of the population. Men, especially Black men, became her enemy. Finally, Deborah realized her noxious attitude about men, coupled with her self-esteem issues, were the impetus behind her failed relationships. Deborah even considered an alternative, but her mental foray into that lifestyle did not satisfy her desire for testosterone; she missed the seductive dance between the yin and the yang. After Deborah slipped into what she calls 'her darkness', she made a powerful choice, one that gave her more freedom, more flexibility, and more time to write. Deborah realized she had the power to direct her life and that joy was her birthright. Love addiction was her reality; it fueled her misguided pursuit of a father's love, in the arms of the wrong men. LOVE ADDICTED led to the healing of her mind and spirit and is the culmination of a spiritual ritual that still channels her life. Reviewed by aNN of The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers

Putting emotional dependency and man addiction on blast,
By Soulful Sistah "Never Wasting the Pretty" (Baltimore. Maryland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Love Addicted: One Woman's Spiritual Journey Through Emotional Dependency (Paperback)
I stumbled on this book at a poetry reading and had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Ricks there. Her book spoke to me so personally (even down to the 6 year relationship that went no where)and helped me to walk away from my addiction to men and focus on ME! The book also names other important reads, quotes, and people to get additional assistance from.
