Biography

Amanda Lear is the daughter of an Englishman and a Russian exile. She studied art in Paris and in the 60s moved to London. During this period she got to know the most prominent designers, musicians and artists belonging to the artistic circles she frequented. Her preferences were predominantly for the Surrealist movement and for bodily expression, since she has also studied the art of mime.

Editorial Reviews

Lear's favourite and very personal album that she recorded with a big French orchestra of all the famous Songs and Chansons from the 50's and 60's in her very personal and moody style. You get the songs and hits originally made famous by Eartha Kitt, Shirley Bassey, Juliette Greco, Marlene Dietrich, Sarah Vaughn, Dalida and Nina Simone backed with fantastic orchestral arrangements and a singer who is still one of the most impressive icons ever. --This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hit and Miss album of standards from Dance Diva, January 2, 2007
This review is from: With Love (Audio CD)
I expect a lot of Amanda Lear's hardcore dance fans are going to be dissapointed with this latest cd of hers featuring her versions of songs by some of her favourite female vocalists. It's mostly a hit and miss affair and this is entirely the fault of the Producer as the music doesnt give justice to Ms Lear's valiant vocals (an example of this is My Baby Just Cares for Me, which has been reduced to a jazzy background number) however when they get it right the results are fabulous: Kiss Me Honey Kiss Me, C'est Magnifique, Bambino and Whatever Lola Wants, another standout; Is that All there is?.But other tracks will have the listener hitting the forward button i.e. Love For Sale, Senza Fine. With a more experienced Producer and A full Orchestra backing her; Ms Lear's album of Female Standards would have been an absolute winner. That said however; its a pleasant enough CD which any Amanda Lear fan should add to their collection. But dont expect anything close to dance or disco its almost a jazzy background album which gets three stars for Ms Lear's sterling vocals, among the best she has ever done.
