The version I was first familiar with was the 1979 cover by England Dan and John Ford Coley that became a hit in 1979. But this is the original and I'm glad I discovered it this week as I like it even better. It's familiar, yet different. The introduction has a piano playing instead of the cover version's saxophone. Guitars supply a rock flavor throughout, whereas the cover is more poppish. The meaningful lyrics were composed by Todd Rundgren and the melody is beautiful. I recommend this to all fans of mellow and soulful rock.
