5.0 out of 5 stars Lori's books are the greatest!, April 14, 1999
By A Customer
This was my first Lori Wick novel. Since then I have read the last two books in the series, started a new series, A Place Called Home and read her compilation of short stories in Beyond the Picket Fence. She has become my favorite author. I loved this book. It was a wonderful story of the lives of three children who start a new life in California. Through their lives and stories, we are introduced to other families and grow to know and love them all throughout the series. I didn't know there were two more books about the other two Donovan children until I went to buy some more of her books. There I found the last two books in the series, which I read in no time. Unfortunately, it is difficult to find her books where I live, so I have to look them up other places and order what I can. I am anxiously looking forward to reading all of her other books though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lori's books are wonderful!, July 13, 2001

This is the first of Lori Wick's books that I ever read, and I loved it so much that I just had to read the rest in the series! The story is about a young woman and her brother and sister who move from Hawaii to California during the 1870's, and their struggles in being on their own. Also Rigg who falls in love with Kaitlin at first sight, but she doesn't feel like that for a while. I couldn't stop reading it after the second half and I couldn't put it down until I found out what happened! I love the way Lori writes Novels, in a way that every romance should be, a God approving relationship. Be sure to read the sequences to this great book: As Time Goes By, Sean Donovan, Donovan's Daughter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Felt like one of the Donovan Family, April 13, 1999
The Californian Series was a wonderful set of stories about the relationships among the Donovan Family. It leads the reader right into the family situations. I was delightly amazed at the emotional struggles this family went through and all along keeping their deep faith in the Lord's. I cryed a bit and smiled alot. This series is one of the best among Lori Wick work.

5.0 out of 5 stars A timeless series to read again & again!, September 1, 2005
By
Lori Wick has created a great series here! I bought these books in her "California" series, back when they were first released, and still read them to this day (ocassionally). She wrote such wonderful characters, that I can't help liking them, and wanting to re-visit their stories, over and over!

The first book, "Whatever Tomorrow Brings," about Kaitlin, and the last book, "Donovan's Daughter," about Marcail are my favorites. Well-written and interesting, these books are definitely worth the read! Please be aware that you can buy the four books seperately, or in two volumes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very entertaining, April 26, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have read many of Lori Wick's books and this series is one of my favorites. Personally, I like the last two books of this series a bit better, but that is personal preference. Whatever Tomorrow Brings is probably the longest story of the four, but it moves quickly and keeps you engaged as the siblings navigate their way through the world without their parents. As Time Goes By is a tender story of forgiveness and wrongs made right. I found the drastic turnaround of Sylvia a bit unbelievable but it doesn't detract from the story. Good read especially for all Lori Wick fans!

I dont like all of Lori Wick's books- but this one was fantastic. Its about a family forced to move to California without their father, and how they survive. I could not put the book down!

4.0 out of 5 stars Wow!, July 16, 1999
By A Customer
I first got hooked on Lori Wick books when a friend of mine let me borrow "Sophie's Heart" at a choir competition. Since then, I have literally inhaled all her books. I only gave this pair of books four stars because "Pretense", "To Know Her by Name", and "The Princess" are so unbelievably good! Her books, and these two in particular, do an excellent job of presenting real characters with real lives and real struggles. Lori Wick's books are a terrific standard to hold to Christian romance fiction. I highly recommend them.

As Kaitlin, Sean and Marcail Donovan arrive in California, lose their Mother (and their father back to the mission fields), I found this 2 volume set to provide an inside to the lives and feelings of Kaitlin and Rigg, and Rigg's brother and wife, Bobbie. Excellent!
