"Love The Beastie" marks the long overdue return of master artist and author Henrik Drescher to the world of children's literature.

One of the most egregious mistakes in publishing is the absence of his amazing books, which are mostly out of print, while formulaic, unoriginal artwork fills the shelves of the children's section of what few bookstores remain these days. It must be a symptom of cultural decline that some of the most enjoyable and imaginative books ever created have been allowed to go out of print.

It is a great gift to see the arrival of "Love The Beastie," a follow-up to "Pat The Beastie" created as a response to the children's classic, "Pat The Bunny." The list of Drescher's books is too long to repeat here, but it is worth mentioning that Drescher is a four-time recipient of the New York Times Best Illustrated Children's Book of the Year award and a freelance illustrator whose work has appeared in numerous publications including the New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Rolling Stone and Businessweek magazines. As a painter, he's had fine art exhibitions throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia including a solo exhibition at the U.S. Library of Congress.

If you want to see an absolute masterwork that is not only therapeutic for the child, but also immensely aesthetic for the adult, get a copy of "Simon's Book." This is a tour de force of imagination and craft where pens and ink bottles and the drawings themselves come to life and race across the pages in ways never seen before in a children's book. Amazon sells it. And be sure to look at Amazon's Henrik Drescher page for his other books.

One can only hope that book buyers will take notice of this beautiful, inspired and kind-hearted work, and that publishers will someday see the wisdom of bringing Drescher's books back into print, classics that they are. Henrik Drescher is one of the finest and most original artists and authors on the planet and should not be forgotten.

It was such a pleasant surprise to find out that Beastie does live happily ever after. Although not as interactive as Pat the Beastie, Love the Beastie is still a fun to expolre book

This is the second of a two-book series. The first book, Pat the Beastie, is also really cool. I saw this book at a friend's house and knew it would be perfect. My son is 2 years old and he loves these books. What makes these books so great is that they are interactive! There are textures to feel, tabs to pull, pop-up pages to turn, things to push that makes noises. A really cool book to play with. And a great lesson about being good to your pets - and animals in general.

One word of caution -

My son is 2 years old, and he has torn off some of the pop-ups. Ideally this would be for kids old enough to know better. However, my son really loves these books (he asks for Beastie) and so we are just extra cautious when he touches the more fragile parts of the book.

I like this series-- think it's cute as a take-off on _Pat the Bunny_. My mother worried kids would learn to mistreat animals...

"Love the Beastie" is the sequel to Henrik Drescher's classic story "Pat the Beastie" and this time, Paul and Judy learned their lesson from their little "experience" in the first book and now they and the Beastie are the best of friends!

This book is much lighter in tone as Paul and Judy are now best friends with the Beastie instead of tormenting the Beastie like they did in the first book. I really enjoyed the activities that Paul and Judy played with the Beastie such as playing hide and seek with the Beastie and sleeping in bed with the Beastie. I also loved the way that Henrik Drescher made this book consistent with the first book as both books still deal with gross humor (my favorite part in this book was when one of the characters passed gas in bed). I also loved Henrik Drescher's illustrations as they are surreal and creative at the same time and I especially loved the images of the Beastie itself as it is green and furry and looks like a large dragon.

"Love the Beastie" is definitely an awesome classic that kids who are huge fans of Henrik Drescher's works and is a fan of the original "Pat the Beastie" will enjoy for many years!
