Unexpected problems, but a good result
on February 20, 2014
I purchased this product in early February for my girlfriend as a Valentine's Day present, and scheduled the item to be delivered to her on Friday, February 14. Having received a tracking number, I monitored my package's progress and saw that, indeed, it was scheduled for delivery on Valentine's Day. Because I live in New York and that terrible winter storm occurred that week, I was very concerned that my package might not make it in time. That concern grew exponentially when I received an "exception notification" from UPS that the winter weather might prevent on-time delivery.
As it turns out, the berries weren't delivered until Saturday, February 15, missing the Valentine's Day deadline. What's worse, though, is that the berries, upon arriving, were no longer fresh, were "smushed" and, in general, were inedible. I got on the phone with Golden State Fruit and spoke to Cheryll, who apologized to me and said that Golden State Fruit guarantees customer satisfaction. As such, a new batch of berries would be shipped to my girlfriend at no cost. Cheryll also sent me an email confirmation, including a new tracking number, per my request.
Well, the berries arrived yesterday evening in great condition. This time, there was a much larger cold pack to ensure their freshness, and there was no "smushing." My girlfriend was really happy with the gift.
So, although I really dislike that my girlfriend had to wait several extra days to receive her Valentine's Day gift, I can't really fault Golden State Fruit in any substantial way. Moreover, their happy, no-headaches response to my concern was refreshing and much appreciated. If only all mail-order problems could be resolved so easily and with so few hassles!
