Book Description

2008
You've got the life of your dreams - until tragedy brings it all crashing down...Kate Miller re-made herself from a geeky teenager into the image of modern woman, with a career in glossy magazines, a wedding to plan and a flatmate who was her best friend. Then it all fell apart - spectacularly, painfully and forever. Ever since, she's hidden in New York, working as a dogsbody for a literary agency. But when her father becomes ill, she has to return to London and face everything she left behind. She spends time with her upstairs neighbour, Mr Allan, an elderly widower, taking long walks along London's canals and through leafy streets. And she visits her adored but demanding father. But eventually she has to face her friends - Zoe, Francesca and Mac - the friends who are bound together with her forever, as a result of one day when life changed for all of them. Mac is the man she thought was the love of her life. Now they don't speak. Can Kate pick up the pieces and allow herself to love her life again?

More About the Author

Hi amazon.com readers! If you've stopped by because you're interested in buying one of my books, welcome! If you've stopped by because you thought you'd typed Harry Potter, I'm sorry, and have a nice day. If you hate me and all my works I don't know what to say... So I might just focus on the 1st of these options.

I live in London, and I write full time, having given up my job (working in publishing) last year to do so. I write romantic comedy-style books, books that are about love and life and good times and bad - basically I want to tell a story that transports you to a different place, with characters you really believe in. I like the kind of books you can curl up on the couch with and get really lost in. That's my aim, anyway, so I hope it's true!

My latest book, I REMEMBER YOU, came out in the US in June 2010, and it's about going back to the town you come from, about memories and first loves and the people you leave behind. It's got a big love story in it and a holiday in Rome, because Gregory Peck is my hero and Roman Holiday is one of my favourite films. Which mean I *had* to go to Rome for research and I *had* to eat lots of spaghetti alle vongole and drink lots of prosecco.

I've had four books published in the States now, I can't believe how lucky I am. I visited New York around launch time and had me a blast, a BLAST I tell you. I went to a Broadway show (Promises, Promises). I ate brunch (we don't do brunch so much in the UK). I drank a Manhattan - woah, watch out for them, they are bad. And I visited a Target, which is one of my favourite things to do in the US. I saw my lovely publishers at Downtown Press, and they told me to come to Amazon and update my page, because there was nothing here and how could people know they didn't like me or my books if I wouldn't let them find out? So there you go, people. If you do take a chance on one of my books, THANKS a million and I really hope you enjoy it. Find me on twitter or www.harriet-evans.com and
love
Harriet x

1.0 out of 5 stars boring, disappointing read, September 5, 2010
By
Lexi Andreas (Danville, Pa United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Love of Her Life (Paperback)
A main character who is flighty, complains constantly and grates on the nerves; far too many irrelevant details which only clutter, rather than serve the story; and a plot which--for no apparent literary reason--jumps back and forth in time....these are all elements which made this book a chore for me to read.

I kept thinking it would get better, surely it would get better....but no, sadly, it really doesn't. 400 pages of whining and pointless retrospection. Finally though, finally I made it to the end of the book and the big scene I'd been waiting for, the climax every reader yearns to reads--what does the author do? She jumps right over that scene and ends the book with yet another bland boring scene. I felt positively cheated.

Sorrow to say, I would not recommend this book to anyone.

2.0 out of 5 stars I plodded through it........, April 11, 2010

I tried hard to get into the main character, Kate, but kept getting annoyed at her whining ways; at times I wanted to just slap her and say "Grow up!" I also think the extreme wordiness made me need to be in a quiet, undistracted place to be able to focus on on the storytelling without losing my place and re-reading the same sentences over and over. The plot line is predictable and not realistic--I'd recommend skipping this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars predictable but ok read, June 20, 2009
This review is from: The Love of Her Life (Paperback)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I'll be honest and say that it took a lot of effort to get through this book. While the story line is a good one, I found the writing to be a bit boring and predictable. I was expecting to be a little more entertained by it than I was. Overall it's not a bad book and it's definitely a light easy read but if you're looking for a sink your teeth in and get involved kind of read this is not it.
