a bit more than a bit too much,
By zhukov (las vegas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Love Between Us (Paperback)
Please don't buy this book. It's beyond overwrought, throughly unedited, has astonishing twists and obscure turns of plot, and it's wordy beyond belief. It has astonishing characters - their personalities and personas and vocabularies shift and mutate unceasingly, as if the author can't remember who they are from page to page.
The alltime worst gay novel ever written is, of course, "Rhinestone Country: A Novel About Closeted Lives South of the Mason-Dixon Line", and while not nearly as bad , this book isn't worth buying or reading. Try again, Mr. Cardenal, but please pay attention to your editor next time, or hire one, or reread 'The Elements of Style.'

This book was just plan awful. I've never taken the time to write one of these reviews but I want to save people from reading this garbage. I wish I had listened to the first review of this book - I totally agree! There was clearly no editor involved here. Was it even read by anyone before publishing? Did he win a contest to get one book published as is? The vocabulary used (over used!) in this book is ridiculous. No human I've ever met sounds like this. The author's from Chicago but it sounds like something written by a foreigner who was either badly mistranslated or who thinks American's really talk this way. My copy went in the trash at about page 170 and I only read that far because I wanted to see how the author could possibly redeem the horrible character of Tom so we would want to see him in a relationship with Joe. I finally came to my senses and decided not to waste any more time on it. This book is so bad that it's almost funny. Unfortunately, it's the most expensive paperback I've ever bought so I wasn't laughing. Zero stars!!

Love in the real gay world.,

An awe-inspiring story of love and loss. This is a well-written and real book that shows not only that gay love is out there, but that it is often found in the most unlikely of places. This book goes aginst the stereotype and shows us that gay relationships are not always what the general public or even the GLBT community thinks they are. Well done Mr. Cardenal, well done.
