Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Following his best-selling How To Love a Black Man (Warner, 1996), Elmore now speaks to men in a straightforward manner about how to have a truly loving and mutually satisfying relationship with the black women they love. Based on his experience as a psychotherapist, ordained minister, couples counselor, and husband, Elmore translates the needs and desires of black women into a language men will understand. He points out the advantages of men "rolling up their sleeves" and truly working for a love that is balanced, as well as the disadvantages of failing to do so. Well organized and written in a light, humorous tone, the book includes clear and practical ways for earning a black woman's everlasting love, respect, and admiration. Its audience shouldn't be limited to black men who love or want to love black women?it can be helpful to men of all races. Highly recommended for all public libraries and psychology collections.?Demetria A. Harvin, Bronx, NY

5.0 out of 5 stars one of the best books that i have ever read ..., September 21, 1999
By A Customer
When I bought this book -- I honestly thought that it would affirm that most of the things that I knew about relationships was true -- and that I could use it to add to what I already know. But, after reading it straight through -- I realized that there was A LOT that I need to learn -- and A LOT that I need to change about my own personality -- to have the beautiful long-time relationship that I am trying to build right now. I keep this book with me at school -- and I look at it every now and then to keep myself on track with the progress that I am making within myself. Dr. Elmore provides the insight that guys need to have, and has made it easier for me to understand how to give and get the best in a loving and committed relationship! Thanks, Dr. Elmore!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT RESOURCE FOR ALL MEN, July 19, 1999
By A Customer
I am a Black woman. I was very impressed that Dr. Elmore addressed each subject with practical steps on getting started. If you feel like you need a place to start or improve on loving the woman in your life, start with this book. I know it titled for a black woman, but this will get you started for ANY woman. Great job Dr. Elmore. Men I encourage you-no, I challenge you to read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brothers can Learn to Treat the Sisters Right with this Book, May 3, 1999
This is an excellent guide for Black men to use to improve their relationships with Black women. As is often the case, us men folk tend to take our women for granted and figure that it's not worth the hassle to work to improve our relationships with them. This book helps in that regard.

I'm what is considered a "giver" according to Elmore and have made efforts to let my true feelings become known rather than to keep the peace between myself and the sister that I'm with right now. Indeed, the exercises he recommends call for some level of soul-searching and may make some folk uncomfortable; however, if one is willing to grow and learn in relating to Black women, then this book is for you.

Enjoy!
