5.0 out of 5 stars A good Paul Mauriat CD to start with
If you have never listened to Paul Mauriate music, then this can well be your first CD to start with. It contains some of the most essential tracks and its current price at Amazon is very attractive. I basically rate this CD four stars, but add one star for the good price.

The tracks included in this 20 Anniversary Collection CD are mostly Paul Mauriat's late 80s works...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the love is blue I remember!
Not the love is blue I remember! I remember this song when it was popular and released as a 45 rpm. single and this is not it. How do I know? I still have that single I got in the seventies. Although I believe the song to be originally from the late sixties this is not the single widely released that I like so much , it sounds less sincere and more Vegas show tune in this...

5.0 out of 5 stars A good Paul Mauriat CD to start with, January 31, 2002
This review is from: Love Is Blue: 20th Anniversary Edition (Audio CD)
If you have never listened to Paul Mauriate music, then this can well be your first CD to start with. It contains some of the most essential tracks and its current price at Amazon is very attractive. I basically rate this CD four stars, but add one star for the good price.

The tracks included in this 20 Anniversary Collection CD are mostly Paul Mauriat's late 80s works. (1988 was the 20 anniversay.) Some of them, especially those composed by Paul Mauriat himself, have beautiful theme and rhythm, such as The Bird of Wounds, Alla Figaro, Back to Pyramids, and Windy. Some people may dislike the heavy use of synthesizers in these tracks. I don't. In my opinion, just these four tracks in one CD is worth the money. This CD also contains three absolute Mauriat classics: Love Is Blue, El Bimbo, and Toccata. Other well known pieces include Mamy Blue, I Will Follow Him (Chariot), etc. But as for the following tracks, I would rather listen to the original songs: Memory, Say You Say Me, Didn't We Almost Have It All. Similarly I would rather listen to the original Symphony 40 and La Traviata Overture.

That all said, if you ask me for a single Paul Mauriat CD to own, then I would recommend either Retrospective or Digital Best. They are more representative of Paul Mauriat's most beautiful works of all time periods.

Its a good cd. enjoyable, relaxing music. I brought the cd just for the one hit song, Love Is Blue. I guess its what your looking for and what comes along with what you want. The music again is very enjoyable.

Although I believe the song to be originally from the late sixties this is not the single widely released that I like so much , it sounds less sincere and more Vegas show tune in this take. That's just my opinion, some may like this version but if you're looking for the one that had the wide release on a single then stay away from this one.

UPDATE!!!
I DID FIND THE ORIGINAL LOVE IS BLUE ON BILLBOARD TOP POP HITS 1968. I GOT THIS CD FROM AMAZON AFTER A SURCH AND IT'S THE ORIGINAL. CHECK IT OUT!

Excellent CD. I had lost my CD 2 years ago and was thrilled that I could still purchase one. Paul Mauriat & Orchestra will always be a favorite.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fine instrumental album, March 26, 2007

This review is from: Love Is Blue: 20th Anniversary Edition (Audio CD)
Overall, this is a great album. I especially enjoyed the title song ("Love is Blue"), "New York, New York," "Say You, Say Me," and "Memory." My only issue is that the album doesn't contain more of his classics (it is billed as a commemorative album). However, I would recommend it to anyone who likes Paul Mauriat.

Obviously composed, arranged, and performed by someone ready to retire. He didn't even include the original released version of "Love is Blue" that propelled him to international fame. I regret wasting my money on this CD. Look for a remastered original release if you want to hear something satisfying to the ear.
