Not the original,

While this is a superb CD, it is also disappointing. I purchased this CD in hopes of getting the original Love Is Blue. This isn't it. The original single version which debuted on the Billboard charts in January of 1968 is found on the Blooming Hits LP. That album is no longer available on CD - and it should be! This is a good updated treatment of Love Is Blue, but it is simply not the same. I would have included other Mauriat tunes on the compilation including the original and alternate flip side to the Love Is Blue 45 entitled Sunny made popular by both Cher and Bobby Hebb. While Alone In The World is noted in many books as the flip side to Love Is Blue, many of us remember Sunny as the flip side and of hearing it receive airplay as well. I know - I own the original 45. Blooming Hits would be a better choice if you were wanting just one of Paul's CDs in your collection. Unfortunately, the bubble-headed "powers that be" have deleted it. Alas! Maybe one day more of this great instrumentalist's work will be available.

Revisionist History,

I was very excited when I saw this disc in the store because I had always loved Paul's version of Love Is Blue. I had worn out at least a dozen copies of the Phillips 45 over the years. However, when I got this disc home, I learned that the version of Love Is Blue that is on it is NOT the same one that got all the air play and was a hit. It's a very different mix, possibly a different performance. The horns and strings are very wrong, not at all what was on the original "hit", and the drumming isn't what was on the original either. If there's a version of Paul Mauriat's "HIT" Love Is Blue on CD, this isn't it.

Excellent Compilation For Paul Mauriat Orchestra Fans,

This review is from: Love Is Blue (Audio CD)
This is the first Paul Mauriat CD I bought in 1990 - it kept me entranced and satisfied for a very long time - "Love Is Blue", "A Man And A Woman", "The Summer Knows", "Somethin' Stupid" etc. To the people who have commented on "Love is Blue" (1982 version) not sounding as good as the original 1967 version I disagree - I think it is the superior version. If you want an excellent version of the 1967 arrangement try "1973 Live" - this has the best version of the original arrangement on, and is an excellent album. The only thing that upset me about this CD was the team who put this compilation together couldn't get the correct dates for "Love Is Blue" correct. It's the 1982 version and not from the 70s. I consider this recording far far superior to Mauriat's "Retrospective" album recorded in 1988 which has been heavily synthesized. BTW, Blooming Hits should still be available and out there somewhere.. It was re-released in 1998 and appeared on online catalogues. Cheers Peter :)
