So here we have the second (or is it third?) single from Electric, a modern masterpiece of a dance album from the masters of the genre. Some complain that this should have not been a single, and I disagreed at first but may agree somewhat now that I have downloaded the two bundles of remixes and b-sides. What is wrong with the remixes? Everything and nothing. Because they prove that this song is so perfect in its original album form that it needs no reworking. None at all! The original (not featured on the single) is such a perfect pop-dance song, with banging beat, luxurious synths, sophisticated lyrics, with an all-over PSB touch, bells and whistles in all the right places, still not overly produced. Plain and simple perfection that the Boys have been delivering so consistently over the years of their impressive career, though this one ranks among their greatest, IMHO.

I do not know how the remixes got picked (from, I am sure, more offers by various DJs and producers), but they do not work. They do not improve on the original (because there is nothing to improve) and do not make it more (or differently) interesting, but that may be a matter of taste, and I am not here to trash the remixers featured on this release. The one by the Penelopes comes the closest to the feel of the original, so I would say it is the best one here. Dave Aude could have tried harder remixing the PSB but offers his usual output which we all have heard before. Little Boots seems high on her trip to the Sally-Shapiro-type moody Italo territory with her 2013 second album, so she kind of takes this PSB song there too, but she could have done better by using the spirit of her dance-anthem-filled first album. Claptone remix, I just cannot get through it all the way...

The Pet Shop Boys never cease to amaze me.

And Yes, i loved ELYSiUM too.

Either sad or dance, their music is still great after so many years and their choice of remixers too!

Can't wait for "Thursday" to be released as a single.

This song I love it. The tune is a romp, the lyrics are superb per usual. At the heart of this song is a good dose of humour so don't take it at face value that they are being entirely serious. Full of charm and laughs Love is a Bourgeois Construct is purely Pet Shop Boys. No one else can do what they do.
