Book Description

September 26, 2011 Indigo
Whatever Melody Cannon wants, Melody Cannon gets -- or least that has been the case for the past decade. The famous Hollywood stylist is used to giving orders, but when Melody takes an early retirement from Tinseltown and returns home to the Washington, D.C., area to start a new life and eventually her own family (thanks to the local sperm clinic), she encounters the irresistible force known as Clayton Reed, a local architect whom she hires to design her new abode.

Clayton can think of many words to describe Melody, his childhood nemesis who is now his client. Unfortunately, none of those words are good. He's a patient man but even he can't control his temper around her. Despite his dislike for the bossy, hot-tempered vixen, Clayton still feels drawn under her spell. In return, he ignites in her a passion she has never known.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Read!, January 13, 2012
Melody Cannon has returned home. The awkward, ugly duckling turned swan left her high profile life in L.A. to start the next chapter in her life. That chapter, however, did not include her childhood nemesis, Clayton Reed. Melody has always been a thorn in Clayton's side. Twenty-five years later, there is still no difference. As long as they stay away from one another, they can co-exist in the same town. All that ends when Melody finds herself in need of an architect again, which just happens to be Clay's line of work. When both of their mothers suggest they work together, Melody and Clayton knew it was a horrible idea. No one could have predicted just how bad! However, somewhere between the insults and name calling, love happened. The question is, will Melody and Clayton realize it before it's too late?

A Love Built to Last was an excellent read! Childers did an awesome job with primary and secondary character development. She made all the characters so realistic and lovable. She does a wonderful job of intertwining the different story lines. Her writing also just flows without having lagging moments. A Love Built to Last was a story that kept you entertained from start to finish.

4.0 out of 5 stars Right in Front of My Face, November 27, 2011
Hollywood stylist to the stars Melody Cannon is a powerhouse who is used to getting what she asks for. When she decides to retire and move back home to Washington, DC to start a new phase in her life and be near her family, the last thing she expected was to have a hard time finding an architect to build her dream home. Clayton Reed, her childhood crush, may be her last resort. Clayton, however, is not too pleased that his mother suggested his architect firm help Melody build her dream home. All Clayton can see is a childhood bully who does not seem to have changed much with age. Clayton and Melody soon realize this project may produce more than a dream home for Melody.

"A Love Built to Last" is a love story that almost seems impossible to blossom. The no nonsense, take charge Melody is shocked and pleased to see that Clayton is willing to stand up to her for something he believes in and so starts their work relationship. What unfolds next, with some help from both of their mothers, is a love story of the uncertain kind. The story was well written and Clayton's smart comebacks to Melody's brash attitude keep the reader engaged and actually makes for some laugh out loud moments. I enjoyed the fact that although you knew this was a romance and Clayton was gonna get the girl, there was just enough of a story line from their families and friends to add some meat to the story and add a refreshing break in the normal formula for a romance novel. I would recommend LaShell Stratton-Childers' "A Love Built to Last" to readers who enjoy romance and those wanting to give romance a try but not looking to read their mother's romance novel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love Built to Last, November 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Cute read. Melody had a crush on Clay as a child but did not know how to show it so she picked on him and made his childhood hell. Clay decides as a grown man he will not stand for Melody's bossiness and bad attitude while Melody realizes Clay is a man to build a home with. How is she going to convince him and maintain her pride? The chemistry was a slow simmer and the witty dialogue carried the story. Any man that can have a conversation with his dog is a secure man. I loved that Clay did not put up with her crap. He made her realize love is a give and take. I laughed out loud at their respective mothers antics in trying to get them together and silently rooted for this couple. I am glad I stopped to read this story.
