Love + Imaginary Man = Mayhem ...

Meet Megan, a manicurist by day and Avon salesgirl by night. After losing her job at Lucy Lu’s Salon, she escapes her real world troubles by burying herself in a romantic novel. But soon the fictional hero seems more genuine than the world around her and Megan is questioning the line between fact and fairytale. A nosy roommate and an angry cat also join forces to wreak a little havoc in Megan’s love life. Can she sort out fact from fantasy before her true hero slips away forever?

5.0 out of 5 stars Light-hearted, funny, and touching September 7, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Megan had a dream to make her living as an artist. The dream hasn't come through, and now the inspiration seems to be gone. She has not painted for months. Losing her job doesn't help either. Worn out by job hunting, Megan agrees to read a romance novel her roommate keeps recommending to her. Normally, she rolls her eyes at romance novels, but this one seems to be different. The hero, a dashing duke, is actually an interesting character, not just a handsome face. Before she knows it, Megan grows fascinated with him. She even calls it "obsession."

The story develops at a steady pace, you kind of suspect where it is going, yet it keeps you guessing, especially closer to the end. I don't want to spoil your read, so I will not reveal any more of the plot. If you like clean romance with a supernatural twist, you will not be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars With charaters that jump off the page ... September 4, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Megan has some problems. First of all, she's lost her job and can't even manage to get hired at the local coffee shop. She's also lost the "spark" that has always fueled her more artistic endeavors. That all changes, though, when her roommate and best friend recommends a book to get her mind off things.

Enter the handsome stranger who needs this damsel in distress to save him. What happens, you ask? Comedy and mayhem. Lots and lots of comedy and mayhem.

I really liked the characters here. The Mystery Man is sufficiently mysterious (and hot), and Carlita, the above mentioned roommate/best friend, has lots of sass wrapped up in concern. Megan, the main character starts the story with an amazingly snarky voice (which I loved), but that tone takes a backseat fairly quickly. Personally, I would have loved a bit more of that snark sprinkled through the rest of the book -- my one and only criticism of this book.

The twists and turns in the plot made this a page-turner that I just could not put down. If you're looking for a light read and need a good laugh, this is definitely the book for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Romance September 16, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Love by the Book is a clever tale about a young woman who stumbles into an unlikely relationship with a man who is full of mystery. Their story, combined with a touch of history and a charming bit of fantasy, makes for an enjoyable read.

In addition to the book's romantic elements, I especially enjoyed the interaction between the spunky heroine, Megan, and her roommate, Carlita. They offer a fun glimpse into the uncertain futures and spending habits of single women in their late twenties.

I'd classify the book as a "sweet" romance, appropriate for young adults as well as older readers.
