This is a compete album. This is my first review on Amazon after years of reading reviews because that's how good this album is. It has an " old school" style that reminds me of some of the 90s best R&B. Mr. Wilson nails it from the opening song til the end... Seriously impressed.

Veteran artists are often hard to judge critically. The reason is because these esteemed artists have already paved the way in their primes and as proven, experienced artists, they tend to eschew innovation. Charlie Wilson, a gifted, veteran artist who has always seemed at home with contemporary music, very much eschews innovativeness on his most recent release, Love, Charlie. While Love Charlie never reinvents the wheel or revolutionizes soul music, it is another welcome, enjoyable addition to Wilson's discography.

"If I Believe" gets Love Charlie off to a fast start. Initially accompanied only by piano and string pad, Wilson's soulful vocals are more than enough to cary the inspirational opener. Eventually, drum (programming) and bass anchor down the brilliant number, capped off by Wilson fully buying in with his piercing, unmatchable upper register. "I Still Have You" has a tough act to follow, but does so capably. Not flashy, "I Still Have You" is the perfect, chivalrous cut that plays up to Wilson's sensibilities.

"I Think I'm In Love" is perhaps the `oldest' cut listeners have heard from Wilson in recent times. Firmly planted in retro-soul stylings, "I Think I'm In Love" hearkens back to late 50's early 60's soul. Wilson sounds commanding against the six-feel, particularly when his vocals are harmonized. Single "My Love Is All I Have" perfectly fits Wilson's full-bodied vocals. The cut attempts to recreate but not retread adult contemporary hit "You Are" from 2010's Just Charlie. It never achieves quite the same grandeur, but comes pretty close.

For Charlie Wilson fans (in which I most certainly am), you will be happy with this purchase.
I am a music head and I know good music! I am also super cheap so I was waiting on the entry price of $5.99, however because I know Charlie Wilson is such a great artist, I figured I would go ahead and drop $9.99. Definitely a happy customer! Check it out! :-)

Charlie Wilson lead singer of the now defunct 70's & 80's group "The Gap Band" has released his 6th solo project entitled "Love, Charlie".

"Love, Charlie" a 12 song project that's pretty well rounded without Wilson sounding too out of the box like some his previous projects.

Let me give you my outtake on it.

"If I Believe" is a crossover tune for mainstream radio. I can actually hear this song being sung on "American Idol" or "The Voice" not really one of my favorites but it can definitely be a Top 40 Pop/R&B hit.

"If I Still Have You" sounds like a uptempo version that's similar to his #1 R&B hit in 2009 "There Goes my Baby" a nice melodic R&B groove. Definitely will make you hit the dance floor.

"I Think I'm In Love" Charlie takes it back to an 50's/60's soul groove. Kinda similar to something that R. Kelly or Raphael Saadiq would do (Neither had any involvement with this song) Charlie does a great job singing as usual.

"My Love Is All I Have" My favorite song off this project. This is vintage Charlie Wilson at his best. I Love this song.

"Our Anniversary" Another throwback 70's groove that put me in the mind of Billy Paul "Me and Mrs. Jones" but Charlie makes it his own.

"Turn Off The Lights" Has a nice R&B groove but is nothing more than an album filler.

"A Million Ways To Love You" & "Show You" Both songs are off the chain this time more of an early 2000 feel which would put you in the mind of something that "Avant" or "Joe" would do.

"My Baby" This song Charlie stepped a lil out the box on this one. Coming with an uptempo flow that just don't quite captivate my attention. Another album filler.

"Oooh Wee" A nice smooth R&B groove.

Well aware that Charlie Wilson that overcome prostate cancer recently,I myself had no idea he had also had a period of substance abuse and even homelessness. Endlessly interesting that celebrities, more over than artists, are the ones who get noticed (and often the most help in the end) when it comes to these sorts of setbacks. I'd call Charlie Wilson a very very popular artist. But he's not a celebrity you see in entertainment news all the time. Still for a man whose overcome so many barriers. So therefore I see it as a fine tribute that this album was released seemingly to commemorate his 59'th birthday occurring on the same day. This is,as I understand it,his fifth solo album of the new millennium. And as far as I'm concerned it's yet another in a series of musical treasures he's left before us in plain sight.

Primarily focusing on slow jams the opener "If I Believe" is a very modern gospel type outlook on close calls in life and near death and how it's reaffirmed his faith on many different levels. On "I Think I'm In Love" the focus is very much on a guitar driven doo-wop styled-which is again explored on the somewhat more uptempo "Our Anniversary" and "My Love Is All I Have",whereas "A Million Ways To Love You","Show You" and "Say" are all more modern slow jam productions instrumentally. Of course they all are done in the same 70's/80's soul/R&B type arrangements Charlie is known for. Much the same can be said for some of the faster numbers such as "Turn Off The Lights" and "Whisper",featuring Keith Sweat which all treat that middle ground between modern production with classic soul arrangements and sound.
