5.0 out of 5 stars Destination: Paradise, December 2, 2009
This review is from: Love Com, Vol. 15 (Love.com (Viz Media)) (Paperback)
This volume opens up with Seiko-chan telling Risa that she's fallen in love (Don't get your hopes up, it's not Haruka. Sorry, I was disappointed, too). She can't wait to confess to her new crush, but a sudden identity crisis might ruin everything.

Then, Risa, Ootani, and the rest of the gang head to a tropical paradise for Mighty and Jody's wedding. Risa can barely contain her excitement, until she finds out that she and Ootani will be sharing a room... with a double bed. She freaks out and pushes Ootani away (literally). Ootani tries to be understanding, but he can't help but feel that he's getting the cold shoulder.

Finally, Ootani has to help out when the basketball team is in trouble. The new captain has no confidence, and the rest of the team is falling apart without leadership. Can Ootani whip the team back into shape?

This is really the best volume in a while. Seiko-chan's identity crisis is hilarious, but also sweet. The situation is creative but realistic. It's good to see the minor characters get some attention once in a while. Most of this volume is about the island vacation, and that was very well handled, too. Risa's reactions are so funny, but it's easy to sympathize, too. All the characters act naturally, which I really appreciate. Nakahara deals with the situation with just the right amount of humor and seriousness. I really like how she resolved the problem. And the final chapter really showed Ootani's leadership skills, which gives you an idea of how he might be as a teacher.

"Love Com" is still going strong at volume 15, where most series have started to lose steam. Nakahara writes about realistic relationship challenges here, as she always does. And I got a lot of laughs from this volume. Can't wait for volume 16!
