The Adult Little House,
By Heidi (New Mexico) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Love Comes Softly (Love Comes Softly Series #1) (Paperback)
I read 3 books by Janette Oke over the last 2 weeks. They are really easy, escape literature. If you liked Little House On the Prairie when you were growing up these are the adult versions. I discovered them via the movies. I really like to read the book before I see the movie and when I saw an advertisement about these movies I felt I should read the books. I have enjoyed them quite a bit. The chapters are short so I can get one in on breaks between my work around the house.
It starts with Love Comes Softly where you meet Marty and Clem and look at how hard life on the frontier really must have been. Marty marries Clem out of desperation but will anything come of this marriage or will she be heading back east soon? These are Christian Literature. One of the things I enjoyed the most about them is that they really seem to reflect how hard life was then. The work was endless and the tools were hard to come by. These people really did have to do for themselves and make do the best they could.

Great Beginning to a Must Read Series,
By toddee62 "toddee62" (Western New England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Love Comes Softly (Love Comes Softly Series #1) (Paperback)
I don't normally read books that aren't romantic suspense but after reading one that had a lot of blood shed I thought I would read a simple book for a change. I felt that a book by a christian writer wouldn't have any filth and that is what I needed. Wow... I truly enjoyed the story of Marty and Clark.
Marty having just lost her husband was asked by Clark to marry him the same day of the funeral. She is shocked but realizes her choices are few as she has no where to go. He tells her it's only because his 2 year old daughter Missy needs a mother. While Marty doesn't want anything to do with him as she misses her dead husband dreadfully Clark allows her all the time to adjust, not touching her and even telling her that if she didn't want to stay in the future he would let her go. The kindness and patience this man Clark shows Marty was the reason I decided to continue reading, wanting Marty to accept Clark and realize the great man of that God that she had been blessed with kept me reading well into the night because I had to know what would happen next. The ending had me sighing. I just finished reading book two, Love's Enduring Promise... you must also as Marty and Clark's story continues and ends with Missy's. While romantic suspense books kept me wondering about who the killer was, Janette Oke books make me think of God and how even during the bad times, Clark's God was always there.

Would love it with better dialog,
This review is from: Love Comes Softly (Love Comes Softly Series #1) (Paperback)
I absolutely loved the Love Comes Softly movies so bought the books, the original version. These books would be so good if it weren't for the awful dialog. I just can't get past it. Example: "We'll find everythin' we want there in thet new country. The land's there fer the takin." "What 'bout a house? It'll be most winter when we git there." Does anyone know if the revised versions of the books cleaned up the dialog or did they just change the covers? Such a shame. I was really looking forward to reading these books! Or should I say, "readin' them thar books!"
