5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT EATS IN THIS ONE - VERY USER FRIENDLY FORMAT February 24, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Soups, stews, chili and like dishes are a favorite in our house and have been for years and we are always on the lookout for new recipes or variations on traditional. I came as a great surprise to both my wife and I that one of the big advantages of owning a Kindle or other reading machine was the availability of even more recipes. We have been collecting cookbooks for fifty years now (At last count we had around 300 books on the subject), so you would think that we would be pretty well fixed...and I suppose we are but I am starting to think that we may be becoming "recipe hoarders," and am thinking maybe we might find ourselves on one of those T.V. shows that are so popular now.

Anyway, we down loaded this wonderful little book and not only did we come across some old favorites, but actually found quite a few new ones to add to our arsenal. Now do take note that there are just the two of us now and since we are getting older, we find that we are actually eating less, if for no other reason than the fact that we are less active than in the past. This is good and this little book is good. It should be noted that most of these recipes are for multiple servings - far more than we could possible eat at one setting. With most of the offerings we have found that placing them in the frig for one or even two days gives us the opportunity to get two meals for the price of one...so to speak. It is also a fact that most soups, stews and Chili is actually better tasting the second day, warmed over. I suppose this is because the flavors blend more as they set.

In this little e-book the author has given us a total of fifty (50) recipes - 23 hot soups, 6 cold soups, 12 chili and 9 stews.

5.0 out of 5 stars Some Intriguing Recipes January 31, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Some of the recipes in this book are really intriguing...things like Cheese Beer Soup, for exampe. It sounds really interesting and I plan to make some soon just to see how it turns out and what it tastes like. Then there are the old standbys like Chicken Noodle and Potato Soup. I especially like the souond of the Chilled Strawberry Soup and think it would be a wonderful dish to serve on a hot summer's day.

This cookbook has a great combination of both old and new recipes and something of interest for everyone. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Different and Lovely Recipes! January 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Yum Yum in my tum is what my son said after eating Loaded Baked Potato Soup lol - Seriously nice recipes for making soups, stews and my hubby's favorite Chilly! My fav so far is the extra sharp broccoli cheddar soup and I'm going to try the chilled strawberry soup out next. Recipes all look fairly easy and use basic ingredients which is always good.

It is cold and I love soup and beef stew when it is. I particularly like her recipe for Hearty Vegetable Beef Soup and one of my All-Time favorites is Loaded Baked Potato Soup any time of the year. My Mom always makes a traditional New Year's Day meal so this one caught my eye too - The New Year's Day Black Eyed Pea Soup - sounds delicious! And you certainly can't go wrong with Old-Fashioned Beef Stew and the Chili Recipes sounds absolutely wonderful! Made me hungry just to read this! Get this one!

I'm always on the lookout for good soup recipes as I love soup. Even though I eat primarily vegetarian, I still found plent of recipes that I could try and several that I can adapt. It was intriguing to see she included cold soups...I'm interested in trying the Elegant Avocado Cream Soup.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is making me hungry January 27, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
OMG I am glad I grabbed this book. It has a delicious chix wild rice soup recipe and I cant wait to try it, I LOVE the stuff. I am also a chili lover but have been making the same old same old chili recipe for years and my mouth is watering reading some of these chili recipes. ITS MAKING ME HUNGRY. I also like the way the recipes are laid out, simple to read and understand for a goof ball like me. Tomorrow is grocery day so I will be playing chef tomorrow night.

Wow, this is a really great book on one of my favorite meals, especially during the winter months. The broccoli cheddar soup is crazy good. I am going to try the New Orlean's soup out this weekend. The gumbo is also a winner along with a bottle of Tabasco.
