Like His "Murder on Music Row" Better Than George & Alan's,
By A Customer
This review is from: For the Love of Country (Audio CD)
This is a truly great COUNTRY MUSIC cd! If you like your music UNMISTAKABLY country, David Frizzell is one you can count on to fill the bill! I initially purchased this disc to hear yet another version of the song, "Murder on Music Row." I had already heard the "original" version by Larry Cordle & Lonesome Standard Time" and also the "hit" duet version by George Strait and Alan Jackson. Those are both good, but this is the ultimate version, as it is SOOO country sounding that the lyrics truly take on an added dimension! The rest of the songs, mostly covers of country standards are exemplary renditions, as well, even though the "You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma," included here is a re-recorded version with newer duet partner, Connie Lea. (It remains very close to the original that he recorded with Shelly West). Don't let the price fool you--this is a GREAT cd!!!

This is a cheaply made CD with no booklet, no info on the players or writers, and it only runs about half an hour.
But the music is great. David Frizzell is a criminally underrated singer. His rendition of "Murder on Music Row" is a classic with real emotion. It makes the George Strait-Jackson version sound like a sing-along nursery rhyme.
