This CD is really good, the song Masterpiece is the best. Really good music to listen to with someone you love. I am really glad my friend recommended this CD. I listen to it all the time.

I absolutely love this cd, there is a little of everything for everyone...if u like the soulful voice of wayne or the sweet sweet sounds from David you've got it all in this cd. My fav tracks are Looking for love again, Girl your love's so fine and ofcourse the upbeat tempo done by Rachael Oliver titled You hit the spot, that has got to be the baddest jam I have heard in a long time. I tell you it is worth every dime I paid for it. Great work from a great group.

Am not all that familiar with Atlantic Starr's music, but I know "Always" and "Secret Lovers" are probably their best songs. I purchased this Cd for the songs "Love Crazy" and "Masterpiece", which I absolutely love. Now I did not expect the rest of the songs to be any good, but I must say it's a wonderful surprise. They are not half bad, especially "Looking for Love" and "Hit the Spot". I can say that I do not regret getting this Cd. A used copy, in mint condition. Try it, and you will see what I mean. 5 stars to Atlantic Starr!

Not worthless, but still probably this group's worst album,

With a long and distinguished career encompassing more than a decade, Atlantic Starr has made many enjoyable songs ranging from the gritty 1979 funk treasure "Let's Rock And Roll" to the memorable 80s ballads "Always" and "Secret Lovers," and it is no secret that they are a talented and highly respectable group. Unfortunately, much of what the group has accomplished over the years is lost on this album. It spawned the hit ballad "Masterpiece," but aside from that, there's not much to recommend. Like other AS albums, there is certainly some good singing to be found here and production is fairly robust, but nothing else on here is as well-written or tuneful as some of their earlier hits, and some of the uptempo songs like "I Can't Wait" and "If You Knew What's Good For You" are so lacking in AS character that they sound like they could have been made by any of the many obscure, minimally talented artists of the period. Unless you're an Atlantic Starr completist, this should not be considered an essential purchase, and there are other, better ways to get "Masterpiece."

Something for Everyone!,

Incorporating new jack, house, quiet storm, and smooth soul, atlantic starr released one of the more versatile r&b albums of 1991. With urban contemporary being bombarded with new jack and jazz rap, this is a rare gem in their catalog as well as urban music. With its quiet storm-esque melody and light tenor rhythm, masterpeice is easily the best track on this set. It was the second single and peaked at #3 pop and r&b. A close runner-up would be the unreleased pop tune "hold on". Other highlights include the lead single "love crazy" (#7 r&b), new jack delight "i can't wait", and seductive "girl, your so fine". In fact, save for the house number "come lover", the entire album is excellent. In late '91, artists, very rarely, incorporated many genres of music into one set. That makes atlantic starr's effort all the more commendable and impressive. The only deficiency, then, is their sparse vocal presence. At times, the production consumes the song more than the singing, dropping it down a star. Nevertheless, this was a sensational effort and should be purchased by die-hard quiet storm followers and moderate early '90s r&b fans. |
