3.0 out of 5 stars Okay
The audio-book quality was good, but the book itself was a little too preachy for me to get that inspirational feeling I think it was meant to convey.

Before you spend hundreds of dollars on saving your marriage get the Fireproof DVD movie and two copies of this book. Watch the movie separately or together then read the book cover to cover separately or together. Wait a week for everything to sink in then do the dares in the book at your own pace. I am a practicing, church going rosary saying, Roman Catholic and this dare works regardless of the religion of the producers of the dare or the religious beliefs of those that do the dare.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Follow-up For "FireProof" Movie!, November 18, 2009
This review is from: The Love Dare Day by Day: A Year of Devotions for Couples (Hardcover)
These are short, easy-to-read daily devotional thoughts for couples --- Here's how to grow together spiritually as a couple, by spending a few minutes each day thinking about the same topic.

This is a great follow-up for the "FireProof" movie! If you've seen the movie in a theatre or on DVD (the DVD is right here on Amazon) you already know about the "Love Dare" idea. Now, that same 40-day idea is spread throughout all 365 days of the year.

Nice layout, very readable, this works well for couples who want to grow together spiritually.

Great & Challenging Book.
I got this to help fix my marriage. What It did was to help me fix myself, to learn to truly Love someone else.
This book is challenging and not for the person who wants to dabble in a relationship. This book is for everybody. DO NOT wait till your relationship takes a turn for the worse START TODAY. Learn what it takes to love yourself and another person to understand your commitment. This would be a great resource for people wanting to marry, could be a wedding or engagement preparation course.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for Christian centered marriage counseling, September 27, 2011

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
As a therapist I don't promote any religion, however, I do think it is important to utilize a couple's spiritual beliefs as a source of comfort in difficult times. This is a daily devotion of marriage advice using a passage from the Bible. What I really admired about the main message beyond forgiveness was that when you're spouse is least deserving of your love or affection that is when they need it most (reassuring them that they are still worthy of love despite their behavior).

5.0 out of 5 stars The Love Dare Day by Day Devotional - Daily Readings, Weekly Dares, August 18, 2011
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Having not read The Love Dare book, or watched Fireproof, I'll have to say that I loved this devotional. I find that I get more out of listening to the Love Dare Day by Day when I have some quiet time devoted to listening, thinking and praying.

Sometimes I think we just need a little help remembering what marriage and relationships are really all about, and this served as a great reminder... and it is easy!

The benefit to listening to the devotional on cd is that you can have it in your car, at home, put it on your mp3 player, etc. That allows you to have the benefit from the information in any circumstance, (helpful if you are busy and don't have a lot of time to sit and read a book). The down side is that it is easy to get distracted, so I highly encourage you to listen through the whole thing more than once.

INCLUDES:
- 365 devotional readings on unique aspects of genuine love
- 52 weekly dares to help you express love in your marriage
- Dozens of specific prayers to pray for yourself and your spouse
- Questions to get you thinking strategically about your relationship
- More than 100 Go Deeper sections that enhance personal Bible study

4.0 out of 5 stars didn't like it as well as the original Dare, April 27, 2011

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This is a year's worth of short daily thoughts about loving your spouse based on Biblical truths. It's hard for me to complain about that! However, I definitely like it less than the original Love Dare (40 days worth of "dares") because I find it less challenging. Day by Day has shorter readings and only one challenge per week. The challenges themselves seem less "challenging" and less actionable, like "Pray about ___". (Not to downplay prayer at all, but I find both the thoughts and challenges may be easier to breeze through and forget as you go about your day.) It's not a bad book, but I need to be really excited about something to follow through for a year.

If you finished the Love Dare and really would like short daily reminders to keep you going, this might be just what you want. Or if you know you like brief daily devotional books, this certainly fits in that vein and may be worth trying.

I do like that it contains the gospel message. (Fair warning if you know you'll be put off by that.) However, it's so thoroughly Bible-based that I doubt many people would make it to day 170-something (at least one place it's presented) without already being a Christian.

I have the audio version and thought it would be ideal for the car for a daily commute. However, if it's going to be worth it at all it really requires more focus than what I can give while driving. Plus, each "reading" is so short it barely seems worth getting cued up every day. So in my opinion it just doesn't work as an audio book as well as I hoped.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good devotional, but better suited for the printed edition, February 9, 2011
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The Love Dare is a very helpful tool that has aided married couples for a few years now. It has spawned a movie, brought in to existence marriage seminars and retreats and it has worked its way into Sunday morning sermons. The devotional is a good tool for couples too, but I question whether the audio adaptation is very helpful, based on the length of the individual sessions.

The Love Dare Day By Day devotional itself is excellent. There are a lot of anecdotes, important thoughts and deep insights for couples that relate to love, marriage, relationships and how to honor your spouse. There are references back to Scripture to drive the points home and there are "assignments" for each week, often continued prayer themes and ideas on how to encourage one another.

The audio is well done, read very clearly and with enough voice inflection to keep attention. I have no complaints with the actual reading itself. My issue with this audio series is that each day's devotional is covered in under 2 minutes (yes, I timed several). Users of this series will spend more time finding a specific track on the CDs than actually listening to it. As such, it would be more time-effective to just pick up the printed edition and read it together.

The Love Dare Day By Day is an excellent devotional series for couples and for individuals looking for ways to encourage and honor their mates. That said, I have to recommend the printed edition instead of this audio version just because the daily audio tracks are so short as to be an ineffective delivery method for the material.
