Dr. Frank - The Cole Porter of Punk,
By DJ Joe Sixpack (...in Middle America) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER)
This review is from: Love Is Dead (Audio CD)
Another absolutely brilliant album from Berkeley, California's mad genius, Dr. Frank. Some of the other Amazon reviews already touched on MTX's strengths -- irresistible melodys, driving power chords, and the densely-constructed, deftly delivered, always hilarious wordplay of the band's lyricist, Dr. Frank. Many MTX fans consider this the band's best effort, and while it certainly is an amazingly good record, don't neglect to check out their earlier releases, as well as the "weird" new stuff that sounds like a mix of Television Personalities and The Go-Gos. Hard to go wrng with these guys.

Still one of my favorite albums ever,

Awwwwe - the glory days of pop-punk. It's somewhat sad that MTX never got the appreciation they deserved. Sure, Dr. Frank (who, all things considered, is MTX) has gone on to be a semi-successful author, but MTX's songs, especially on this album, should have become punk-rock classics instead of a mostly forgotten footnote. The album itself, for better and worse, represents pop-punk to a bouncy core - it will make you smile, jump around, and break your heart all in about 45 seconds. This was really the peak of the mountain for MTX as well - the next ablum - "...Revenge is Sweet and so are You" was good, if not uncomfortably similar to this one (on a side note - the song "Love is Dead" actually appears on the follow-up - if that doesn't sum up this band or this era in punk music I don't know what does). MTX then decided to slow things down a bit, with predictable results, and soon faded from scene. There really isn't much I can say except buy the album, it's one of my all time favorites.

Criminally underappreciated Power Pop band,
By
This review is from: Love Is Dead (Audio CD)
I love the Mr. T Experience. They make tightly crafted Power Pop songs that are nauseatingly catchy. "Love is Dead" is definitely my favorite. Yes, their body of work that spans over 20 years is rather monotonous and they make the same record over and over (ala Ramones), but it is still fun to listen to. I play them on my radio show here in central Ohio nearly every week. "I Fell for You" and "I'd Do Anything for You" are pop gems. It is sad in a way becuase they never received the acclaim that they deserve, probably because they play a genre of music that is tired and infested with cliches. Despite this, I still revisit this record from time-to-time and re-live my summer at a 13 year old punk. Check these guys out, despite the fact that they should have thrown in the towel for good years ago.

I definitely think this is the best MTX cd. It has just the right combination of pop and punk to make an excellent cd. Dr. Frank's lyrics are awesome. The music just rocks. If you're looking for some good pop punk you need to get this album.

One of the best (if not the best) CDs I own.,

The first time I heard MTX was on the Glory Daze soundtrack. I picked up this CD because it had a song in common with the soundtrack. Every song on this disc is great you will love them all!

The most criminally unknown CD on the planet,

I didn't even like punk until I heard this. Usually, when I review music, I do individual reviews of each song, but that isn't required here. Every single song on this CD gets 5 stars. Some will probably annoy you at first, but keep listening. You'll be glad you got this incredible album.

An album everyone should own!,

I must say that of all the groups out there right now that the Mr. T Experience is one of the greatest. Dr. Frank's lyrics are all witty and great. This album is not only funny, but just a great listen. Songs such as "Thank you (For not being one of them)", "Hangin On To You", and "I Fell For You" are just some of the examples of why you should get this cd. There is also a great acoustic song "You're The Only One". So if you are looking for a cd that you will never get sick of this is it.

How did I live before I heard this band?,
By A Customer
This review is from: Love Is Dead (Audio CD)
Everyone I have played this CD for has wanted to run out and get it. Everyone else here has already covered the high points: zany beat, cheerful singing and dead-on humor about the ups and (mostly) downs of relationships... One of the 10 CDs I'd want if I were stranded on a desert island.

Classic,
By A Customer
This review is from: Love Is Dead (Audio CD)
Any pop punk who doesn't own this classic album might as well trade in his leather jacket and Ramones t-shirt now. Arguably the greatest pop punk album EVER, "Love Is Dead" is essential. Dr. Frank is one of the most brilliant lyricists around today, more on par with people like Billy Bragg than with Joe Queer. Pure emotion, brilliance. If these songs don't make you cry, you have no heart. Also check out "Revenge Is Dead, And So Are You"
