About the Author
After a brief stint as a lumberjack, Andrew Nicoll has spent his working life as a journalist. He has had short stories published in New Writing Scotland and other magazines. His first novel, The Good Mayor won the Saltire First Book Award and has been translated into 20 languages. He is 45 years old and married with three children.

I loved Andrew Nicoll's first book The Good Mayor, and for this reason I have been waiting to read more from him, and The Love and Death of Caterina definitely doesn't disappoint. But what is readily evident after reading just a few pages into this book is that Nicoll is not a one-note; if you see the title of this book thinking you're in for a retelling of The Good Mayor, you're in for a pleasant surprise. This isn't a love story. And it's not a mystery, since right from the beginning we are made privy to what becomes of Caterina. This is not a "who done it" -- but rather, this is all about the "why did he do it?" -- and because Nicoll makes us fall so completely in love with Caterina, a reader can't help but voraciously pursue the answer to this question until the book reaches its devastating resolution. The Love and Death of Caterina is a brilliant but haunting must read.
