Book Description

Content with her life as a lady's maid, Isabel Knott learns the father she never knew has left her a fortune. The news comes with one restriction—she can never reveal his name. Isabel falls in love with Colby Tisbury, but with her nonexistent pedigree his father, Lord Tisbury, will never accept her as his daughter-in-law.

Colby Tisbury must marry, and soon. If he doesn’t find a bride before the end of the Season, his father will supply one. Then Colby meets sassy Isabel Knott, and everything changes—but can he go against his father’s wishes and marry a girl utterly lacking in family and connections? Isabel is forced to make an impossible choice - reveal her secret identity and bring shame to her true father or lose Colby forever.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"There is a shocker or two in store when it comes to Isabel. Twists in the story that I never saw coming. Another fun read and great follow-up to its predecessor."

"The plot used by the author has been used before but Debra put a different twist in. I really enjoyed how Isabel was treated and how Georgette was nice and not the usual spoiled brat."

2.0 out of 5 stars A bit too sugary & lacks accuracy. January 14, 2014
By Kara
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed the story at first. But it didn't follow through. Nearly everyone is a nice and kind person. Old advice to writers: If there is no conflict, there is no story. There is a minor conflict in this book. But it's glossed over and not really felt. I didn't get invested in an outcome I wanted to see.

The father could have provided some antagonism, but quickly becomes a pitiable but romantic man. The only other person who could have potentially have provided some desperately needed conflict is incredibly lackluster and ends up whimpering out of the story. AND the heroine wants to befriend her because she feels sorry for her. Really? In what world is everybody you come across wonderful people ready to be your best friend or beloved family or friend of the family? It smacks of a grade or middle school attempt at writing a historical romance. Historical inaccuracies and too sugary of characters. Like a fairytale. But even those have villains.

Inaccuracies bother me. In society, there are proprieties to be maintained. Families are to mourn deaths. Not set off to London for the Season within several months of the death. And that long of a wait due to waiting for a confirmation of it being okay to stay with a family friend. Young unmarried women going without a chaperone. Riding home at night after a ball in a carriage with a man just met that night? The supposed chaperone at a ball stating "I have friends I haven't seen in a while. I'm going to go talk with them. I'm sure you'll be fine on your own." Unlikely to happen in the country at a local dance. Nevermind in London among good society. And finally the father objecting to his son marrying the heroine because she doesn't know her parents.

5.0 out of 5 stars A sweet delight! November 16, 2013
By Linda
Format:Kindle Edition
I was given this book as a gift while recovering from surgery, and what a sweet delight it was! Who hasn't fantasized about how our lives would be different if we were born into different circumstances? And that is what Isabel wonders all her life until tragedy brings a truth to light and her life changes all at once. A lovely sweet romance. If you enjoy historical romance, or have ever dreamed of a Season in London, don't miss this lovely story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Story! October 25, 2013
By Sandy
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
As a fan of Debra Elizabeth's Love by Secrets, I was excited to see Colby Tisbury's story. He was such a complex (not to mention troubled) character, I wanted to see how the author would redeem him. To my surprise, Colby went from gambling scoundrel in the first book to a totally scrumptious hero in this book. I felt sorry for Isabel, and I probably would've been way more pissed off than she after discovering the truth about her father, but that didn't stop me from liking or caring about her plight. There is a shocker or two in store when it comes to Isabel. Twists in the story that I never saw coming. Another fun read and great follow-up to its predecessor.

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved everything about this book June 22, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
My greatest pleasure is to read about the previous books characters again. The author does a wonderful job of showing the love still living within the couple's while at the same time telling a whole new story. I often find myself wishing the books would go on so I could see how they are later. This book satisfied that craving. I also very much enjoyed reading a little from everyone's point of view, It added much more depth that many authors don't go into. I just wish there were more books to read.

4.0 out of 5 stars The picture doesn't fit the story February 23, 2014
By Angie
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
From the pictures, I was expecting something different, and I about didn't buy it. It's a clean book, with only kissing in it. That's the kind of story I like, and I'm glad I didn't judge the book by its cover....

4.0 out of 5 stars Review by KyBunnies December 13, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I love the cover. It has such a regency feeling.

This book starts out strong with a child being born. After getting thru the first few chapters readers will enjoy the thrill of the hunter, Colby and Isabel. A few twist and turns but will they find there way to happily ever after?

The plot used by the author has been used before but Debra put a different twist in. I really enjoyed how Isabel was treated and how Georgette was nice and not the usual spoiled brat.

Thanks for an enjoyable read.

The bunnies and I give this book 4 carrots.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. All views are my own and do not reflect those of the author, my clients or tour companies I work with. This is not a paid review. To form your own opinion please support the author and acquire your own legal copy of the book.
